The fossils was formed by layers of sediment. It was first ocean, then the turtle dies. Millions of years later all over there is sand and cactus. The environment is now a dessert. A lot of sea creatures died in the ocean. sediment piles up on top the turtle and the soft parts get eaten like the hart,  skin, stomach, and the eyes. The rest rots away. Then it's berried for a long, long time. Then the rock fades away and you see half of the fossil. Then people find the fossil and displays it in the museum. Your right it is! When an animal, plant, or human dies over millyons of years layers and layers of  sand, water, or dirt pile over it. The skin will rought away and will leave the bones. Then the bones kind of mold into some type of rock.
 Look outside your window. What do you see? Whatever it is it was not there a long time ago. Enviourments change over time. Take a look at the picture on the front. It looks like a big turtle fossil. Exsept the background looks like a desert. Since its a turtle fossil ( may not be) it probly lived in the ocean.

The reason is because in the photo there are little flaps. I think the fossil formed after the climate changed. The land could've once been an ocean but slowly over years the land that was once an ocean changed into a desert. So the fossil was found in the desert. The reason why is because in the photo it shows a lot of sand. Also it could have gotten too hot and slowly the water evaporated and no more water was left to keep the turtle alive so it died of not having any water left to drink. When the turtle died it's organs got eaten by another animal and so the only thing left were the bones and then the bones were soon starting to be buried by piles of sedimentary rock and then the bones were buried by sedimentary rock and then after thousands of years the bones were finally formed into fossils hip hip hooray!  the first thing that happens to a creature in progress of becoming a fossil is they  die.Then they get covered in piles and piles of dirt. Then soft parts rot away. After that minerals replace the animal's bones.Then dirt blows off of the fossil and a piece sticks out of the dirt.Then the fossil is dug up and studied.
           The fossil looks like some sea creature and the land looks like a desert. So I predict the land used to be an ocean but now it is a desert. The creature could have been swimming. Then something happened to it and the creature died then bunches of sand piled on top of the bone. Overtime it turned into a fossil but the environment changed into a desert.
