Gender is essentially a certain identity that has been learned and socially constructed. It is a defining characteristic comprised of many behaviors that may or may not be matched with the sex assigned at birth. This image with some of the preferred pronouns across the gender spectrum are a great example of the importance of identity across the spectrum, especially them/them pronouns becoming an umbrella term for all gender fluid identities.

A subculture is mostly the related behaviors or specific values of a group within an established culture. Mainly being a byproduct of a larger culture that has manifested into it's own culture with norms followed by it's members. The example I chose in this picture is punk rock culture, which is just one of the many subcultures in the rock genre. Apart from appearance, there is a certain attitude in the punk culture that's pretty much universal in being true to yourself and an emphasis in self-expression no matter what anyone tells you.

Culture Shock

Culture shock is the initial disorientation that an individual may experience in an unfamiliar environment due to differences in cultural norms and values. Usually, it's due to pre-established perception of one's own culture compared to another. I used this example because whenever I visit the Philippines, no matter how many times I visit, I always receive some kind of culture shock with public transportation/driving norms. Like for example, honking constantly is normal and is used like how we use blinkers! So you could imagine me driving how shocked I was!

Poverty is a standard of living the does not meet the minimum of life maintenance such as diet, health, and shelter. Basically, it is the struggle to get by or survive physically, and economically. I used this picture of skid row in LA because it is a prime example of the poverty problem in big cities and addresses a number of problems that fall under the many causes of poverty.

This type of leader is one that relies on personality and charisma as authority. Using their communicative skills to heavily influence a groups actions and their obedience. This picture I used is cult leader David Koresh, which used his knowledge of religion and persuasion to convince his followers he was the messiah.

Authority is the concept of power that one has over a particular group. Legitimacy being a big factor on perception of authority and the scope of which precedes it. I used the Standard prison experiment as an example due to the fact that it was a clear representation of the notion of authority and it's influence.

The Thomas Theorem is defined as the concept that if people define situations as real, they are real in their consequences. Essentially meaning that a preconceived notion of a situation of an individual is as real as they want it to be, no matter the real truth. I used this mask protest as an example mainly because these people have created the concept of the mask mandate being a direct violation of their freedom and creating their own versions of oppression, despite other numerous reasons on why it is being enforced.

Counterculture is defined as groups whose values, norms, beliefs and related behaviors place its members in direct opposition of a more dominant culture. It is also a direct product of a well established culture in which results in opposite norms and values to challenge said culture. I used this picture of anti-establishment anarchists as they are a clear example of an established counterculture that are a product of their perception of corruption and injustice in the system. A counterculture created to directly oppose the government establishments.

Racism is a combination of prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against an individual(s) on the basis of their racial or ethnic group. It encompasses the general negative attitude towards a particular race. This picture of segregation in the past is a perfect example of racism which also falls under many of the elements that accompany racism as a whole.

Earnings/Pay gap

The concept of pay gap when comparing the average CEO wage and the average minimum wage worker is tremendous. Some may even consider it unjust. As of 2017, the average CEO makes 1260 times more than the minimum wage worker does in an HOUR. I think this image relates to the concept due to the fact that many might say that the wage gap is a direct product of capitalist greed and how capitalism contributes to some of the economic problems that encompass earnings in general.
