1. People love staying near the volcano

2. Volcanoes will explode frequently and people should not live near volcanic areas.

3. Living near volcanoes has no advantage

If anyone lives there, there is a very likely chance of dying due to a steady increase of Anak Krakatoa's size and likeliness to explode. It is impossible to outrun cataclysmic flows from the volcano. Hence, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages and.....

- If the villagers relocate, they will no longer be able to harvest free materials from the forest. Hooment(wild animals etc.)

Their culture and religion will be stamped however, they will live in a more modern environment with less dangers from the envied out. But their life would become easier for them as they would not have to hunt or forage. However the 10 hour work day will put lots of stress on them.

1) People living near

- They would like to stay to retain their culture and their way of life. They are content with the resources provided to them by the forest and do not wish to change their lifestyle to a western one.

2) the government

- We need more land for infrastructure! We can plant more trees. We can also provide necessities for the forest people

- People living in the rainforest are happy with their lifestyle

-The government offers aid to villagers that switch to a more modern lifestyle.

- They are content to stay in the forest.

Issue:

- There will be lots of stress on villagers as they might be discriminated by others for their culture and they might not be able to find jobs.

Final Decision: Stay

- People living near the Mekong River might not be able to find a job in the city as they do not have a stable form of education. 

- Urban housing is expensive and the money they have might not be able to sustain themselves for long.

- They might not be able to adapt to the new lifestyle in the city.

- They might be discriminated as they are “strangers” to the city.

- They might not be able to have enough money to buy daily necessities in the city as they are expensive.

- Floods will continue to threaten the lives of villagers.

- The villagers can rely on Mekong River as transport, to provide fish for selling and consumption. They can also continue to receive income as the Mekong is a tourist site.

- Their crops can be inundated.

- Might want to stay due to attachment to their village.

- Will not get used to the new life in the city.

Assumptions

- Villagers enjoy life near the Mekong.

- They have to constantly repair the walls and properties of the villagers after the floods.

- They have to spend money to repair them. 

- Might not have a proper education when they move to the city as education fees are expensive.

- Might be discriminated in their school as they are “different”.

- Might not be able to fit in and understand what the teachers there are teaching.

Assumptions

- Children will be treated differently by the other students.

- Can work in another agricultural field of operation like a tree planter.

- If not, they cannot find a job and cannot survive.

If we go elsewhere, we may not be able to find jobs to earn a living and may not be able to adapt well to urban life.

The point of view:  

Stay...We would like to stay because we have been staying here for years (emotional attachment). We have also been able to make a living by selling fish. Besides, we have always have had fish to eat. water to drink and have been able to move around via boats in the river. The river also allows us to earn money when tourists come over to the Mekong Delta. If we relocate, we may not be able to eat fish everyday and may not have enough money to buy water to drink. We may not be able to find a job and may live worse off than before. Even worse, the cost of living in the urban cities is higher and we may not even be able to afford basic necessities which are crucial for our survival. 

Relocate...Floods occur very often when we live along the Mekong River which have killed our friends and relatives. Besides, the government needs the land for other purposes and does not want to waste money repairing and building the dams to stop floods from harming the people. We should help the country by relocating to the city. The government has also offered us incentives which are extremely attractive. The water in the Mekong River is also polluted and may not good for our health as we drink the water from the Mekong River everyday. 

 

Assumptions: 

We would be able to find unskilled jobs that we have done when living along the Mekong river which will provide us with a steady income. We will be able to have a house to stay and food to eat.

Living in the Mekong River will endanger our lives and may cause some of us to drown and die. The government needs us to leave the Mekong River.

Final Decision: Relocate

The lives of the villagers revolve around the river. The liver practically feeds them as it irrigates their land for crops, they can fish in it and shells can be collected there for food. Without it, they would have to buy food with money they did not have. People in Vietnam are already bankrupt enough... Mekong people even more bankrupt

IF GOVERNMENT FORCE THEM TO LEAVE, HERE'S OUR PLAN. LET THE CHILDREN GO FIRST AND GET A DECENT EDUCATION, LET THE ADULTS STAY AND SELL FISH.
