It was a quiet, dark night when my youngest son and I were preparing to leave the kitchen after dinner. It was only the two of us who were in the house that night. The soft, gentle sounds of the night made us feel at ease, and just as we were about to turn off the kitchen lights, a strong, sharp noise made us startle and freeze, and our skin crawl. The strong noise of a big rock crashing against our terrace's floor made me fear for our safety. I took the biggest, sharpest knife in the kitchen (as if I were some kind of a skilled warrior, which, of course, I am not) and ran toward the backyard. Lola, our Doberman dog that was on the roof terrace, started barking so loudly and sharply that it could be heard all over the neighborhood. She was even trying to climb the fence, like a panther after its prey. As I was running, I could hear the noises of a person running on the roof, and suddenly, I was there, looking at a man climbing down the neighbor's fence toward their property. My heart was pounding and I was sweating cold drops of fear. I ran back inside and called the neighborhood's police patrol. They arrived in no time, but the apartment building next door, where the man had come from, was absolutely silent, peaceful, and dark. No one answered the police's call. There was nothing we could do, except hope that it would not happen again. It was Lola, with her dark black fur, who warned us, and it was also she who defended our house and ourselves. Had it not been for her, whose barks and desperate jumps frightened that man, I don't want to imagine what would have happened. To this day, we appreciate Lola's loyalty and braveness. Caring for the ones who love her, and whom she loves too, evidently.

It was a sunny day, and I was spearfishing at El Morro. The water was very clear. I was following a big fish near some rocks. I had already been underwater for about forty seconds. I was feeling fine, but then things got dangerous.

Suddenly, a strong water current pushed me against a rock. I tried to swim up, but the water was too strong. I started to feel scared because I had already used a lot of my breath going down. My lungs were starting to hurt. I knew that if I fought the water too hard, I would faint before reaching the top.

Instead of panicking, I remembered my diving training. I thought about the breathing exercises I had practiced many times before. I tried to relax. I waited a few seconds for the water to slow down, and then I kicked hard to escape the current.

When I finally reached the surface and took a deep breath, I realized how close I had come to passing out. It showed me how fast the ocean can become dangerous.

Five years ago, I went on a trip to Chiapas with my family. We visited some beautiful mountains where there were several zip lines and since I like some extreme activities, I decided to try the biggest one, before I got on it, the staff explained that because it was very long and people reached high speeds, there was a brake that had to be used before arriving at the other side.

At first, everything was fine, but when I started going faster, the brake suddenly came loose, I was moving very quickly, and the other side of the mountain was getting closer and closer, and I felt really scared because I knew I could crash if I didn't stop. My survival instinct kicked in, and I managed to grab the brake and put it back in place, I pulled it as hard as I could and stopped just before reaching the end.

After that, I stayed there for a few minutes trying to calm down, it was one of the scariest moments of my life, but I was happy because I had reacted quickly and avoided an accident.

Last summer, my family and I went to the Firefly Sanctuary in Tlaxcala. We had booked tickets for the tour months with anticipation, so we were really excited to see the forest light up. We knew it was the rainy season, but the guides had told us the weather was clear for the night walk. We headed into the forest around 8:00 p.m. At first, it was great: we were walking beneath the trees, and a few fireflies were starting to glow around us. But suddenly, the weather changed completely. I looked up at the sky and saw a thunderstorm approaching; I got scared because there wasn't much light in the forest just our flashlights. It was terrifying. It started to rain, we could hear lightning striking nearby, and the wind was blowing hard. Amidst this, the guides rushed us along; my dad got lost, and we ended up separated from the group. We were lost, wet, and terrified at the thought of being struck by lightning. We had to hold hands tightly and walk slowly through the storm for about 40 minutes. Luckily, one of the guides spotted us with a flashlight and led us back to the main cabin. We were completely soaked and shivering with cold, but we felt a huge sense of relief to be safe. It was an incredible story that my family will never forget!

When I was only 6 years old, my dad had taken me to ride mi bicicle through a runway besides the Atoyac River, in a public park in the center of the city of Puebla. The day was grey and cloudy, as it always was in that city, and the river smelled badly, as it always did.

At the time, I had just learned how to ride my bike. Many people passed by my side on their own vehicles, faster than I could see, feeling only a gust of wind every time one outran me.

I was extremely afraid, my hands were shivering and each breath was more difficult than the last. My father didn't help either; seeing me steering slightly to the right as he followed me, and screaming in a voice that I always thought was of anger: "Keep the handlebar straight!". He repeated this once and again, my panic growing with each scream, until it got the best of me. And next thing I know, I'm falling off a ledge.

I rolled over the grass in the steep riverside, my bicicle crashing with a tree before plunding into the river, but before I could react, I was also submerged.

I tried to find my footing but the current was as strong as I was tiny, so every time my feet found solid ground they were swiped, turning me on my back and making me swallow water. When this happed and my head was submerged below the river, I tried to open my eyes to see where I could hold myself, however, I could not see anything more than opaque, green-brown water.

But before I knew it, I felt two arms hugging me and holding my waist, which then pulled me up above the river's surface. Then I realized that the person that pulled me out was my dad, and the water that seemed deep and frightening to me before, now could only reach his knees.

With the help of two other men we climbed the ledge to the runway. Even though I would spend the next six months getting rid of the parisites and diseases I swallowed, right at that moment, I was safe.

Five years ago, I experienced a very scary moment that I will never forget. My boyfriend and I were spending time at my family's ranch, enjoying nature and the fresh air. We decided to go out for a ride on a quad bike around the property.

Suddenly, while my boyfriend was driving, the quad bike hit a difficult part of the road. He tried to control it, but the quad bike flipped over completely. Everything happened so fast. We fell off the quad bike very hard against the ground.

When I opened my eyes, I felt a terrible pain. I had hit my head very hard, and I felt dizzy and confused. My boyfriend was incredibly worried and helped me immediately. Later, at the hospital, the doctor told me that I had a concussion, and I had also sprained my ankle and my neck.

It was a very dangerous situation, and recovery took some time. However, that day I learned how important it is to be careful and always protect yourself. Now, I am just grateful that we survived that accident and that it was only a big scare.

It was a warm afternoon when four of my friends and I were driving back home after spending the weekend together. We were on a long highway surrounded by empty land, with no towns, gas stations, or even houses in sight. We were talking and laughing until one of my friends suddenly looked at the gas gauge and realized we were almost out of gasoline. At first, we thought we would find a gas station soon, but after driving for several more kilometers, there was still nothing around us. Little by little, the excitement in the car disappeared and was replaced by silence and worry.

We all started to feel nervous because we knew that if the car stopped, we would be stranded in the middle of nowhere. There was no phone signal, and we had no one to call for help. To save the little gasoline we had left, we avoided stopping the car or slowing down more than necessary. Every minute felt longer than the last, and we kept looking around, hoping to see something that could help us.

Just when we were beginning to lose hope, we noticed a tall post with a small sos button on it. None of us had ever seen one before, and we weren't even sure if it still worked. Even so, we pressed the button and waited. Five minutes passed, then ten, then twenty. After almost half an hour, we started thinking that nobody was coming. Suddenly, we saw a pickup truck approaching from behind. It slowly stopped next to our car, and a young man got out and asked if we needed help.

Although he seemed friendly, we were still afraid. We didn't know if we could trust a stranger, but we also knew we had no other choice. He offered to take us to a nearby town where we might be able to buy gasoline. Since there were five of us, two friends decided to go with him while the other three stayed in the car.

The drive with him was surprisingly quiet. He simply asked how we had run out of gasoline, and after we explained what had happened, the conversation ended. A few minutes later, we arrived at a small town, where he took us to a man who sold gasoline. We bought a few liters, thanked both men for their kindness, and drove back to where our friends were waiting.

As soon as we poured the gasoline into the car, we all felt an incredible sense of relief. The engine started without any problems, and we finally continued our journey home. Looking back, we realized how quickly a fun road trip had turned into a stressful experience. We also learned an important lesson, never begin a long drive without checking the gas tank first. Most importantly, we will always remember the kindness of a stranger who appeared exactly when we needed help the most.

In October 2020, my family and I traveled to Cancun for what was supposed to be a one-week vacation. Everything was going well until a hurricane was expected to hit the area. Although we had been enjoying the beach and the hotel, everything changed in just a few hours. The hotel staff asked all the guests to move to a bunker for safety. We stayed there for four days while the hurricane was passing. It was a scary experience because we didn't know how much damage the storm would cause or when we would be able to leave. In the end, our one-week vacation turned into almost two weeks because flights were canceled. Fortunately, everyone was safe, and the hotel staff took good care of us. That experience taught me how important it is to stay calm and be prepared during emergencies.

To be honest, I don't really have stories like that, but the closest thing that ever happened to me was when I was with my friends and my girlfriend at a club on the boardwalk in Vallarta, just having a good time. But at one point, I got into an argument with a friend because she wanted to overcharge me for no reason, so I wasn't having fun anymore. My girlfriend told me, 'Well, if you want, we can leave, have dinner at home, and watch a movie, and they can come back later.' I said yes, but when we left and got into the car, we realized that her phone was dead and I didn't have any data to set the route back home. So, what we did was trust our instincts—actually, more hers than mine—and I don't know how we did it, but we made it. We got home safe and sound, watched Tangled, and went to sleep.

Last July my family and I took a roadtrip from Oklahoma to Chicago, along the way we stopped in a few small towns to rest and explore. One of the places we visited was a small town called Eminence where there is a river that is popular for kayaking. The only problem was that a big storm had happened a few days before so the river had a lot of branches and the current was stronger than usual.

I had always enjoyed swimming far from the shore whenever I went to the beach. One day, while I was snorkeling at a beautiful spot, I noticed a coral reef in the distance and decided to swim toward it. As I had been watching the colorful fish and swimming at the wonders of the sea, I hadn’t realized how far I had been from the shore.

When I finally came up for air, I suddenly realized I was very close to the reef but dangerously far from the shore. My only point of reference had been a man relaxing in his kayak, but when I looked again, he seemed much far away than before. The sea had tricked me.

I knew that if I panicked, it would be impossible to swim back. So I stayed calm, breathed deeply, and began swimming toward the shore, following the waves instead of fighting against them. It took me about two hours to return, but thanks to my fins and snorkel, I managed to make it back. That day, I learned how tricky the ocean can be and how important is to keep calm.

One time, I went skiing in Big Bear. I decided to go to a very high mountain, even though I was not ready for it. People told me it was going to be difficult and dangerous because I didn't know how to ski very well. But I wanted to try it because I liked the adrenaline. When I started skiing, I went faster and faster. I was very nervous, and I couldn't stop. Then I saw a lot of people in front of me. I thought, "I'm going to crash into them and cause a big accident. So, my survival instinct told me to fall on purpose. I threw myself into the snow before I reached the people. It hurt a lot, but nobody else got hurt. It was a scary experience, but I learned that sometimes it is better to protect other people, even if you get hurt.

One time I faced danger was here in Mazatlán, when I went with some friends to Isla del Medio in a kayak. That day the ocean looked calm, so we thought it was going to be easy to get there and have a good time. We were talking and rowing chill, not thinking that something bad could happen.

When we were already moving forward, suddenly a big wave came and flipped our kayak. We all fell into the water and got really scared. We tried to get back on the kayak, but it started filling up with water. It felt like it was going to sink, and we didn’t really know what to do.

After that, we started floating and pushing the kayak toward the shore, but we got super tired. The kayak was getting heavier and heavier, and the shore still looked far away. I was really nervous because I didn’t have much energy anymore, and I thought maybe we weren’t going to make it.

Our salvation was a small boat that was passing close to us. The people on the boat saw us and did us the favor of coming near. They helped us get on the boat, and they also took the kayak to the shore. When we finally arrived, I felt so relieved because honestly it was really dangerous.

After that, I learned that the ocean is not something to play with. Even if it looks calm, it can change suddenly. Now, if I go kayaking in the ocean, I try to be more careful and not trust it too much.

To be honest, I can't remember a story where I faced danger, but a friend told me a story that fits this category. He went camping. He was part of a group like the boy scouts or something like that. Everything was going smoothly and it was a lot of fun, until night fell and they went to sleep in their tents. He was sharing his tent with three other partners, but they had forgotten their sleeping bags. They thought that with only a few blankets they would be okay, but it started to get really cold. They huddled together to keep warm, but then they saw one of their partners on the floor of the tent and noticed he was pale, even a bit blue. So, they decided to pull him close to them and spent the night waiting for the morning.

A few years ago, I experienced a scary situation during a family trip. We were driving on the highway when it suddenly started raining very heavily. The road became slippery, and it was difficult to see because the rain was so intense.

While my dad was driving carefully, another car was going too fast. Before we realized what was happening, the driver lost control of the car. My dad quickly slowed down and moved to the side of the road to avoid a collision.

Everything happened in just a few seconds, but it felt much longer. I was feeling very nervous because I had never experienced something like that before. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the other driver was also safe.

After the accident, I realized how important it is to drive carefully, especially during bad weather. Since that day, I have always remembered that being patient and following traffic rules can save lives. It was a frightening experience, but it taught me to appreciate safety and to stay calm in difficult situations.

It was a cool morning, and I had gone hiking alone near a trail close to Guadalajara. The path was quiet, and I remember feeling completely relaxed as I climbed higher to get a better view. I had been walking for almost an hour, and everything felt fine. But then, the weather started to change faster than I expected.

Without much warning, the sky turned gray and a strong wind started pushing against me on a narrow section of the trail. I tried to keep moving forward, but the wind was strong enough to throw me off balance near the edge of a steep slope. That's when I started to feel scared, I was already tired from the climb, and now my legs were shaking from the effort of just staying steady. I knew that if I kept pushing forward carelessly, I could easily lose my footing and fall.

So instead of rushing, I tried to remember everything I had learned about staying calm in difficult outdoor situations. I thought about controlling my breathing and moving slowly, one careful step at a time. I found a low rock nearby and crouched down close to it, waiting for the strongest gusts of wind to pass. After a few tense minutes, the wind calmed down just enough for me to move safely back toward a wider part of the trail.

When I finally reached solid, flat ground again, I realized how quickly a peaceful hike had turned into something genuinely dangerous. That experience taught me that even familiar, calm environments can change in an instant, and staying level-headed can make all the difference.

Years ago, when I was about 13 or 14 years old, I was playing football with my friends and my brother at the neighborhood clubhouse. At the time, our residential area was relatively new, so the builders had left some unfinished structures around the property. One of those incomplete projects was the surrounding fence, and we happened to be playing right beside it.

Suddenly, during a rough play, my brother accidentally pushed me toward the fence. Before I could react, an exposed small metal pipe pierced directly into my neck. I immediately pulled myself away to stand up, but when I placed my hand over my neck, I realized it was a severe emergency. I could feel an immense amount of blood running rapidly through my fingers and palm. My brother and friends tried to stay calm while calling my mom. Due to the shock and blood loss, I blacked out right after that. I had never experienced such a terrifying moment before.

The next thing I knew, I was waking up in a hospital bed surrounded by my relieved family.
