The oil that comes out of the ground today is millions of years old, it started as tiny plants and animals that lived and died in the oceans. Heat from the inside of the Earth and chemicals are combined to change some of the remains into oil and natural gases. Lots of the World's oil lies under southwest Asia, this is one of the reasons this area was once under water. With in this section of Asia, the oil is spread across the countries unevenly, the biggest country in this region, and it has the most oil, but one of the smallest of the countries as one tenth of the amount of oil.

50 years ago, Dubai was a very little town, electricity was very new and wandering people walked the deserts near by. Now Dubai is a large, modern city that is very well known. Dubai and most parts of southwest Asia has been changed by oil. Southwest Asia has the largest amount of unused oil. Money from the sale of this oil helped Dubai fix up their city

The Price and Flow of Oil

Most countries goal in Southwest Asia is to have a good supply of oil and from they oil they expect a steady flow of money to come back to them. To achieve this goal, 12 countries (only 6 of them southwest Asia countries) who all produce oil have come together and agreed to keep oil prices steady. Although they work as a group they cannot control all oil prices worldwide. As long as oil is the world’s main source of energy, countries that import oil will work to keep it flowing.

Oil in southwest Asia has improved many people's lives. It was even made some countries rich. this happens by looking at a countries GDP and the per capita GDP. The per capita GDP is only an average, it assumes that the money is split up evenly between people in their country, when in reality this isn't always true.

Southwest Asia is within the three countries, Europe, Asia and Africa. Crude oil is found underground and about one half of all of the world's crude oil lies under South west Asia. Most countries worldwide are always wanting oil and natural gas. Many forms of transportation depend on oil, power plants burn oil and natural gas to produce electricity. However Oil is a limited source and once this oil is gone the people will have to switch to renewable sources.
