The song I'll be performing is called " Say You Won't Let Go'" by James Arthur.
I picked this song because I feel in love with it ever since I heard it on the radio recently. I was on my way home and this song started playing on the radio, and after it was over I had to find out what that song was. I guess what made me fall in love with it and what me gravitate towards it was one, his voice, its so unique yet weird like me but its different and I enjoy that. Two I like how simple the song is, like its ridiculously simple but it sounds very complex and so smooth if that makes any sense. I really love the parts of the song you can specifically hear the guitar because it gives it a little like pop of life and I really enjoy that for some reason. I like the tempo of the song because its at a really nice tempo, its sort of relaxed and I like that because I like the feeling of being relaxed since I don't feel that way very often.

Listening1- What's on my Playlist?

I feel like I would have a relaxed playlist. for the days when you're like stressed out or aggravated. These song would comfort me when I felt this way. If school was stressing me out or people where aggravating me, I would just plug my heads phones in and block everything until that feeling went away and I'm relaxed. Two other songs that I would listen to the make me feel relaxed is "Lost Boy" by Ruth B and "Let It Go" by James Bay. I guess the first thing we rally listen to interpret a songs meaning is by the instruments and dynamics of the songs. Just like the Jessie J's song "Do It Like A Dude", she give a loud grungy sound to say to the men out there that she can be like them too. In some songs thats not the case at all. Like the song "This Is Gospel" by Panic At The Disco, I thought that song was about two spouses and one wanted to be let go meaning like they wanted to break up, but I read the lyrics and I listened, that songs meaning was completely different. It was about him dying and he wanted the people to "let go" of him and let him die. Its actually kind of sad if you think about it. Thats another way people would figure out the meaning of songs, by reading and listening to the lyrics. if I didn't I would still be wrong about the meaning to that song.

I will be playing "Say You Won't Let Go" on piano. The song actually uses a guitar but I heard a karaoke version of the song using piano and i liked that one much better then the guitar. I feel like it sound more elegant and it has more of a flow to it rather then playing it on guitar. When i have my creative ideas i don't know I really create them. I guess I just mess up and like what I do and add it in the song, or I think about what can make the song sound even better. I listen to all types of music its not just one specific kind because I'm very open when it comes to music. my least favorite style would probably be country. It's not my cup of tea but i like some country songs so I'm not completely opposed to listening to it. It just depends on what I'm feeling like. So I guess when I compose and create new things, I pulled some knowledge out from different genres of music.

Performing2- What are my strengths and weaknesses?

I feel like my weakness would probably be using both hands at the same time. I know that sounds weird because you usually have to play with two hands, but what I mean is constant movement on both hands. Usually I would just play chords with my left hand and individual keys on the right hand. Another weakness I feel like I have is when I have to move to a key that's out of reach, or in other words a key that's farther than my finger stretching distance. One of my strengths is that I learn pretty fast. Usually I can learn from YouTube tutorials better than sheet music. Another strength I have that I have a good memory which comes in handy because I don't like reading sheet music. I'm thinking about if I should change the song I'm playing to "This Is Gospel" by Panic At The Disco. I love the piano version, I think its very cool in the sense that that kind of song is not really a song you would think to turn into something on piano. I feel like performers just practice a lot to try and improve, just practice, practice and practice some more. Another way they can kind of improve is the make mistakes. Because mistakes can be good and bad, mostly in music composing it can be a good thing, or you can be practicing a song and mess up and make it like your own little pizzazz in the song to make it your own.

For my playlist I chose a relaxed type of playlist. Some new songs that I would put on there would be "Ride" by TWENTY ØNE PILØTS"Girls/Girls/Boys" by Panic at The Disco, and "Weak" by SWV. I feel like my music is relaxing because they're slow and soft songs and I feel like that kind of music is relaxing. All of these artists are describing their lyrics by the way they sang their songs. In the song weak I feel like she's describing that she's in love with someone and the presents of them makes her feel weak. In the song ride I'm not sure really what the meaning is exactly. The song Girls/Girls/Boys means a lot about the LGBT community. It talks about how girls can like girls and boys and I really love that about that song because there's not a lot of songs out there that support them.

Creating2- What influences creativity?

I can use my knowledge of performing in many different ways. One way is that I know what people want when they see a performance. They ultimately want to be entertained and enjoy the performance. Who would want to see a pianist play the same note or chord over and over again for 30 minutes. I personally would not want to see that. I would probably fall asleep or leave to be completely honest. So when I compose I make sure to add little differences in my piece for two reasons. One to entertain the crowd and make it sort of my own. When I make creative decisions I just see what I feel like should go in the piece. Like if I mess up and I like it I'll keep it. If I don't like it I'll take it out of my piece. There's not really anything special about my composing skills. I just embrace my mistakes.

I think it's going well. I'm learning very quickly and efficiently. I've learned most of the song already I just have to add in some chords and some pizzazz on my part. It is very important to know structure and context in music. you need structure because you can't build songs and make them better without making a structure. You need to understand the context of of song because it will really help you perform your piece really well. Because if you know the background of the song you can put the feeling in that song into your performance and it will sound awesome. Now, when performers perform they have to go over the song repeatedly until they feel like they have it where they want it. A lot of practice and time will definitely help and perfect the song. So in order for performers to perform the song well, they have to have time to practice and spend time perfecting it.

Listening3- What makes up my music?

For the first song I picked for my playlist, I feel like the rhythm of the song shows that is a relaxing song. In "Lost Boy" by Ruth B the meter is 4/4.It goes kind of slow and it makes me feel relaxed because of that element of the song. Slow songs put me in a relaxing state all the time. For the second song of my playlist I feel like the sound is what make it sound relaxing to me. Its like a soft sound and it kind of sounds like a lullaby almost. The dynamic of " Let It Go" by James Bay is like P, then it goes to MP, then its sort of F. Well when you make your song so unique you have to make the song different by using these musical elements. We understand the performer/ composer's expressive intent by using SHMRG because we can pick through the elements and determine the feeling of the song.
