JORDAN- Love the Marshall McLuhan quote. Tech is a good servant, but poor server. -Scott
___________________________
Using the tool to help achieve a learning objective is the part that impacted me the most. The medium is not the message. I enjoyed that the purpose of online classes is not to dramatically challenge learning objectives. It only changes how things are delivered, not what is delivered.
Jordan Daniel

TIMOTHY- So important to keep the student experience in mind. It can be hard to see our assumptions. Working with our team will help you have another set of eyes on your course! -Scott
_________________________
I was struck by the assertion that faculty often hide (either intentionally or unintentionally) their expectations or course requirements. Its easy to become so wrapped up in where I want the course to go that I forget to think about what the course shell will look like to a student.
- Timothy

STEVEN - the idea of the phone does seem like a throw-back, but the issue is connecting with the student and in the increasing disconnection, having a call from the prof. is a welcomed call. -Scott
________________________
In the previous lesson and in this the phone was brought in as essential technology. I have to admit I never once thought of a phone call as a tool in online education (partly because I hate talking on the phone). I always looked at the Smart Phone as a way of accessing the tech for an online course. Much like I use my phone mostly for pictures, e-mail, and music and never call anyone, I completely ignored the old school phone conversation as essential. Definitely giving me something to think about.
- Steve

I often use a Pet Parade, contests, etc. to create a sense of fun and community. What is something you do now that might carry over? -Scott
_________________
The aspect of the fun and unexpected was a good encouragement. While I often find ways to add in a games or creative projects of some sort (other than typical essays) in face-to-face classes, I hadn't considered how that might regularly jump start the online learning environment.

SHANNON-
An introverted student can really flourish in an online environment. It allows all students an opportunity to be more reflective. -Scott
______________________
The idea that technology is a tool to teach was impactful. Rather than just "making it work," online teaching can even enhance the effectiveness of teaching by implementing unexpected, creative ways for students to engage. Online teaching also gives a platform to students who may not be as willing to speak out in class to still express their ideas and gain more from the learning process.

One of the easiest ways to think about technology integration is considering your learning outcomes, then thinking about how technology can help you achieve them. -Scott
________________________

One of the things that worry me the most is how to use technology intentionally. Even with my traditional courses, sometimes, I tend to mechanize the use of Kahoot, Quizlet, or even the electronic platform we use with the course textbook. Hope, I can learn to use technology.

The power of external resources.

There are so many open educational resources (OER) available to students and professors. In particular, the cost of textbooks can be significantly reduced through access to OER. In preparing for my assessment course, I discovered all of these external resources through the Student Affairs Assessment Leaders website. I hope this upload / link works! :)
