The thing that was happening is King George wants to get back with America for some reason. King George was messed up in the head though, with his gray wig that had mercury, to mess with the head. One of my favorite songs actually aside from Alexander Hamilton which is the opening song, Wait for It, and My Shot. I honestly thing that the goals of the actor were to tell that he has unconditional love for his subjects, because they still were technically British citizens, but he wasn't afraid of killing some of them to get them to remain loyal to him. It also goes along with the fact that in real life he did go crazy because, he sounds disturbingly happy about what he's threatening to do. I think they did well with this song. The goal of the king was to tell his citizens that he will get them back or they will come back. Every time King George is on stage you know it's going to be something entertaining. He's there to send a message to the colonists about the war and he accomplished it. He begun to say things like, " I'll send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love. " as a sign that war was going to begin soon. His facial expressions stood out to me the most, especially in his song 'What Comes Next?'. But anyways, the song itself is great. He sings it like he loves America yet the lyrics discuss war conveying that his idea of love is a little twisted. Jonathan Groff's performance in this is great. The singing is great. I really love that sudden outburst with, "NO. Don't change the subject." the way the spit flew out of his mouth and everything just shows how he's mad. The performance to me is passive aggressive, the beat and tone is happy while the lyrics don't tell that the King truly feels that way. Just imagine the song representing a toxic relationship between you and the King. He tries to make it look like he has good intentions but the lyrics say otherwise and how he truly feels.
