Bethany Hamilton is a world class surfer but she didn't start out this way. Bethany Hamilton has two brothers Noah and Timmy. Her brothers were surfers as well  and  her entire family had surf blood in them.  Her parents, Tom and  Cheri met in Kauai and worked to get  a house together and raise a family. Tom was a NJ  resident and even surfed if it was snowing!  One day, Tom and his friend Monk went surfing in the middle of winter and people thought he was crazy. Her mother is from CA and i a surfer too. Bethany was home-schooled and her mother taught her. She couldn't be a professional surfer all day and still go to school! She was competitive but still was a sportsman. Bethany was one of many surfers on her island. Alana Blanchard was one of them too. She and her mom Cheri went to the Kauai Tunnels for a early morning surf, their usual routine. A couple minutes in,  Bethany felt a jingle-wiggle on her left arm and saw a gash where her 
arm used to be, blood surrounded her. Alana swam over and shouted out to her dad. Bryan Blanchard, Alana's dad, came over and brought Bethany back to shore. The weeks after the attack Bethany tried her best to learn to surf and tried to get back in the water.  Before contests she would use a wrap and put it to her foot and where her arm used to be, this was how she would get ready. The day that Bethany went back into the water was Christmas at Wai Koko beach.
