Auf seiner Flucht verhalf er zwei Warrant Officers, die an Malaria erkrankt waren, den Kontakt zu einem Arzt herzustellen. In Skyros organisierte er ein Boot, mit dem ihm und einer nicht genauer genannten Zahl an Fliehenden die Überfahrt in die Türkei und damit in Sicherheit gelang.
