The childhood of Omar (example of answer from a student)

I think that Omar had a difficult childhood. Probably, he didn't have a father or maybe he didn't have parents at all and was brought up by his grandma. I can imagine how this lack of authority at home had a negative effect over his behavior. He rarely went to school because he felt disconnected from the rest of his classmates, excluded. When he started skipping classes, he'd go to the 'corners' of Baltimore streets and start making little businesses connected to drug dealers. At first, he felt integrated and important, even though he was just the 'boy on the run', who would bring little amounts from the provider to the client. At some point, he realized he was too clever to be running all his life and a twisted sense of justice led him to start robbing the drug dealers. He blames them for not having had a normal childhood, for having lost his innocence really soon. Therefore, he becomes a criminal 'with principles'. After all, it's better to be the Queen than a simple pawn in this game.
