In my career as a teacher I have taken my students many times to walk in the woods, in the hills, in the mountains, by the sea, that is to know and discover nature. I have organized many visits to museums, exhibitions, art collections. On many occasions we have visited educational farms or artisan workshops to learn how to make bread, flour, cheese ... I also tried virtual tours to cities or factories.

Another way to explore the environment is to visit the cities of art. Or visit the factories that produce goods they use every day, such as paper mills, food industries, textile industries ... I also find it very educational to visit kennels and catteries to increase respect and empathy towards the animal world.

During the Museum Day celebrations, we did a virtual tour of NASA's space agency. The students could not ask questions, but they watched and listened to what was going on there and how each part worked and affected the study of space. The pandemic has allowed us to virtually connect to various sites of many of the world's museums and have an approach we did not have before. There is nothing better than a live visit, but things like this also serve very well to get to know something that only a few would really have the opportunity to do.

Last month my colleagues and I organized a visit to a Children's House in the capital of our county. Students learned more about the past of the place where the House was built, they played a game in the library where they looked for specific books and then they made postcards from the place they visited. We used those postcards and made a kind of an exhibition in the school hallway.

I took my students to a science center that I did not know much about. There the officials directed us. An officer in each department gave information to the students, asked questions and had them experiment. It hasn't been difficult for me at all. Students were also happy to receive information from people different from me. This was the difference for them.

We went to Poland for a Comenius project, which was about theatre and art. They took us to a centre and taught our students their national dances.

In Year 4, the students worked on a local area project. We would walk around different parts of the town looking at different aspects of the town. For example, one week we sat next to the main road and counted all of the different types of vehicles. The next week would walk to the park and analyse what we felt was good about the area and what we felt could be improved and then the students would write a letter the Mayor to share their thoughts. The following week we would look at some of the historical buildings in the town, look at the way older and more modern buildings differ and then draw and label the historical building and include a few facts they have learnt about the building. They also write an opinion piece about which type of building they prefer and why.

This year I have been assigned to a very influential subject. We visited the Marine Sciences Institute in our city.
Different applied trainings were given to our students within the scope of "Awareness Raising Training for Primary School Children on Marine Biodiversity and the Effect of Wastes on Biodiversity in Mersin Province, and Monitoring of Hazardous Jellyfish and Beach Garbage Wastes".

Classification of marine organisms, marine ecosystems, food chain between them, characteristics of marine mammals (whale, dolphin, seal), communication ways;

Of the 7 turtle species, only the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the sea turtle
(Caretta caretta) The process of laying eggs on the Mediterranean coast and the formation of turtle hatchlings, video presentation, introduction of fish by touch, invisible zolactons (microorganisms), parasites, the damage to the biological diversity of wastes were explained to our students by experts and applications were made.

Here are some “visits” I organised, participated or enrolled students in, and that were not deeply discussed here:

- Videoconference with an association connected to the protection of nature.

- Visit to the local theatre, library and monuments.

- Participation in workshops organized by the local library or other entities.

- Meeting with local students from other classes/ schools.

- Visit to the head school of the school cluster.

- Visit to an English bookfair.

- Visit to a local art symposium to interact with the foreign artists (this didn’t happen because of the pandemic)

- Seeing an interactive play in English in the local theatre (this didn’t happen because of the pandemic)

Participation in workshops and videoconferencing is usually easy to organise: since most of the “during class” work is done I just had to do the pre and post activity work.

The visit to the head school was simple because there was already a team working on it (the aim was to help students get familiar with the facilities available for students). I just had to adapt it to the English class work.

Visits to local spots (monuments, library, and so on) requires some work but can be done on your own. The only mandatory “extra help” is someone to give a hand supervising the students. Nonetheless, to get the best out of it, having another teacher participating is always better, since more time is available (working with someone else is always better!!!).

Exchanges with local students, participation in a bookfair and seeing a play required a lot more work and an established network of teachers willing to participate/collaborate. The bookfair and the play also involved money, which is always a huge responsibility.

In the large group I organize joint activities between my group and the fourth grade, the teacher's class that my children will go to next school year. That year we make a few visits to the school and organize various activities. This helps children to integrate more easily when they go to school next year. Sometimes we organize in the classroom, other times in the gym or at the school library, right in the school yard.

Places to go on field trips that I have not been to or discussed in detail here are senior homes, hospitals, craftsman's workshops, landfills, markets, harbor, airport. There are some service areas which may not be very popular but are essential to the community.
Another field trip I think would be very useful would be to visit a school in a different city, country, or even in a different continent. Our students are growing in a multicultural, diverse world and we could help them to see our similarities when we show them our differences.

In my experience as a teacher I took part with the students in a virtual trip to the city of Turin (we are in Catania in the south of Italy) during the pandemic when in fact one could not really travel. It was a great experience, well organized (it was part of a ministerial coding program) and interactive. The boys liked it very much and we will propose it again looking for other opportunities.

unfortunately, I have not taken my students outside the classroom as many times as I would like too...I work in a kindergarten in Athens and is kind of difficult.But some years ago we visited the Museum of War where we dramatised paintings and another time we visited the beach after attending an educational program about protection of the sea and the sea side(where we had the chance to observe how people pollute the beaches and we cleaned the spot)

During the school year, I visit the trim track in the woods, where we have outdoor lessons. The students know the path well. In the afternoon, they also visit it with their parents. During the closing of the schools, I prepared activities for them on this route -trim track. They received tips and instructions by email. Then they went on a trip and solved tasks.

Before Covid-19 pandemic, me and my students of the last grade (3nd grade) of my school, those who prepare themselves for the final exams that will drive them to university studies, visited some of the universities or faculties of universities that organize the “open doors” event. This is the invitation to the candidates to visit the university, to have a tour guide to the facilities and to get informed about the university, its structure, its faculties, the personnel and all the details in order the candidates tο make their decision. Attending the presentation event and discussing with the representatives of the university, students are mostly helped in their decision for the university, the faculty or the academic studying object they better choose. Organizing the event was not so difficult since everything is arranged by the university. The only thing I had to do was to make an appointment.

Our students went to a nuclear power station in Hungary. Of course to the visitors' centre and the places where they had programmes, presentations, exhibitions for students. Through videoconference, my students participated in various activities with other schools in other countries through an eTwinning project on Environmental Education. The students introduced themselves, introduced our school and our country and then shared with their colleagues group work in digital format that they carried out on the theme of the project. We also held a videoconference with other schools in our cluster in order to publicize our project and we also held a videoconference with families to watch their children's presentations.

I have a great memory from parents of a student that i have. We arrange a Zoom conference and they spoke about a Sun Watch and we made it in real time, with them. I usually like to compine the subject of history with cultural visits to museums and archeaological sites, as Athens the city where I live and work has plenty of them.
The National Archeological Museum, the Acropolis Museum, the National Gallery, the musuem of Cycladic art are some of the choises. Students are really suprised to see live the statues, the objects and the paintings that they find in the pages of their history books. It really gives them a pleasure to study them in close and realise that they truly exist and they are not just virtual objects in a photo.
One of the problems I have to deal with is that all these visits should be carefully organised quite a few weeks ago and they can't have a spontaneous character. Usually I have to choose among one of all of the museums I want to visit as educational visits shall include and other types of institutions such as theaters, cinemas, thematic parks...

In my school, the internet signal still has many fluctuations and failures, which has compromised even the distance teaching. For this reason, the exploration of virtual visits, although very attractive, has not been a big bet.

Our students visited the local elderly care home before the pandemic. Actually it was a series of visits throughout the school year. Students spent a few ours there every other week. They spent time outdoors with the people there, read books/poems to them, did quizzes, talked, made cakes. It was great. It made them understand life at another level.

1. Preparations before outside learning: At the beginning of the school year, I planned a visit to the cave and entered the school curriculum related to the subject of nature so that no special permission from the principal is required. After that, I sought the consent of the parents and the carrier. I arranged the schedule and time of the visit, assistant.

We studied the theory in a nature class: karst relief, which are stalagmites and stalactites, as it seems, sinkholes river. Knowledge should be used practically as well, so I announced field classes 2 weeks before which students and parents had time to prepare.

I prepared instructions, assignments and first aid (just in case) and was well informed about how to organize visits for students with disabilities. The instructions were related to clothing and footwear, behavior, accessories and materials for work.

Setting learning goals and outcomes:

theoretical approach: learn what stalagmites and stalactites are, how they are created (arousal of interest, motivation)

approach to VAK method: directing attention: noticing types of whitefish, hearing noises, sounds, silence, moving around the cave

practical approach: perform experiments

ethno approach: preserve natural heritage

eco approach: take care of clean water and land

Travel: I visited a cave in Croatia with my students. We traveled by bus.

I repeated about the behavior, the clothes, the shoes, and set the task.

2. During learning:

Task setting: find stalagmites and stalactites, their similarities and differences.

- observe students, help, advise if necessary, communicate with them, listen to the guide and his instructions.

3. After learning in the cave:

A) in nature: students drew what they saw from memory in a forest (cut grass!). They drew with pencils and felt-tip pens.

B) in the classroom:

We talked about how stalagmites and stalactites are are made, what they consist of, in what relief they appear and why.

I prepared 2 experiments for them, which they set up themselves and noticed that the soil in the karst relief leaks water rich in calcium carbonate, limestone. I showed them chalk and baking soda as the best example of that.

2 groups:

first: karst relief model: redness soil, crushed chalk and soda, pebbles, water

second: experiment - how stalagmites and stalactitesare are made

Reflection and evaluation:

List 3 things you have learned, 2 things you still want to learn, 1 that you are not quite clear about. What you especially liked, what you would change, which is easy, which is problematic on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 - bad, 5 - medium, 10 best).

I have worked activities with my fellow teachers in my shool. For this exercise, we bring our students (15-19) together, in a different classroom, to develop activities in which they have to work collaboratively, writing and speaking in English to solve tasks in a playful way.
We try to organize teams of 4 people in which students from the two groups meet, so that they become familiar with the way others speak and work.
The results have been very satisfactory in all cases.
I would love to organize an activity with an English teacher from another country to offer my students the opportunity to practice the language and hopping this will help them gain confidence and have an experience that results in a very significant one.
