Throughout this journey he came across many different things. In this story the author added many cool things that helped establish the story even further. He added a lot of different weather events which always helped to establish mood. A great example is during his encounter with Caleb Fawney and there is rain an the weather is very gloomy, or when he is coming to the Davidson's house there was a light snow and I feel that it symbolizes the beginning of something new and better. Through this whole story there were so many emotions and things running through my head. By the end I found myself so connected with Joseph and Ah-Kee. It was so sad when Ah- Kee had to leave Joseph, but I do think it was a necessary thing for the author to include. A common theme that was running through this book was home. For Joseph finding his home was finding his Sarah who really connected back to everyone. And for Ah-Kee it was finding his lost family. In the end they both ended finding there true homes. The stars that represented the campfires of the dead kind of meant that Joseph's Sister, Papa, Mother were still alive. They were showing Joseph that they were with him. 
Also, I think Caleb Fawney was related to Joseph.  Or maybe Caleb Fawney knew his Papa. That's why he didn't pull his other gun and shot him. Instead, he wanted a drink with him. How weird is that!

I love the characters in the book. They all had something that they knew would always be with them, which I thought was interesting. Ah-Kee, my personal favorite had his bird, but he decided to share it with his friend who he didn't know. He was able to connect with someone who spoke a different language. I wish our world was like that today. Everyone could get together like that. Ah-Kee was just lost on the street until Joseph came along. It is so interesting that he chose to follow someone even without any knowledge of his intentions. And Joseph accepts him happily. I also noticed that Justin said his own thing that he loved more than anything was his sister. And now him and Joseph shares that with him. I loved how the setting and weather influenced the story. When he arrived at the cabin he was on a beautiful river in a green, lush valley where the sun is brightly shining, and then after he comes back it is snowing, which symbolizes a new beginning. At the start of the book he says the stars are the campfires of the dead, but his Sarah is still with him for now. Dan Gemeinhart really took you through the story and you felt as if you played a role. I was so impressed with the emotion and feeling that most journey books don't include. I cried twice. My theme would be that anywhere can be your home as long as there is love and hope. It is a wonderful story of bravery and journey. Mr. Gemeinhart made my heart leap out of my chest and cry when Sarah almost died. I love this book so much. In some way The Honest Truth and Some Kind of Courage were related because they both included a boy on a journey to find another chance of hope. Joseph was on a journey to find Sarah because she was his last piece of family and Mark was on a journey to make it to the mountains with his dog Buea because the mountains were where he thought he would feel at home. Joseph carried the rock from his father's grave, and then the bird from Ah-Kee. Peter carried his mother's bracelet. They both had something from a passed loved one. The two books were different because Joseph brought home Sarah, but Peter let Pax stay with Bristle and Runt in the woods. The book was really funny at some parts, like when Ah-Kee hit Ezra Bishop in the face with a shovel and knocked him out cold, and when Joseph pants kept falling down. Some parts were really sad, like when Joseph visited his mama and Katie's grave. Mrs. Mueller left us at a lot of cliff hangers, and it was really funny to watch everyone's reaction. So far, this is my favorite read aloud so far! My favorite part of the book was when Ah-Kee smacked Ezra Bishop in the face with a shovel. Another frightening moment was when Joseph encountered Caleb Fawney, and Caleb pulled out his gun. That chapter had a huge cliffhanger. The saddest moments were when Ah-Kee left Joseph and when Sarah almost died. I thought it was interesting that Mr. Gemeinhart put some personification in the book, for instance the book said that the rivers tell stories. The happy moments were when Joseph found Sarah and when he found Caleb Fawney. Some things were really sad, like when Sarah almost died. It was really happy that she survived the bullet shot to the neck. That's like a 1 in a million chance! I loved how Joseph went back to the Davidson's in the end. In the book there was also some added humor. Especially the part when Joseph's pants feel down when they were facing the bear. I really liked Joseph's character. He was a kind, loving, and brave person. He helped Ah-Kee, who was probably going to die without his help, and Joseph was also brave enough to go after an outlaw who took his horse. That is definitely some kind of courage. Ah-Kee was awesome. He could do everything. He could deliver babies, hit dangerous people with shovels, and even survive log jams! The only thing he couldn't do was ride a horse. It was so sad when he left! I'm not a very emotional person, but if I was I would have cried. Thank you Mr. Gemeinhart for this great book, and I am looking forward to reading your other books in the future!

They had a true friendship and they didn't even speak the same langue! I cried when Ah-Kee and Joseph had to part ways. Joseph had a lot of bravery to shoot Caleb Fawney. WOW!
