Students often find that mastering referencing is one of the big challenges when they begin and as they continue their studies. 

This unit and all Education units at SOL uses APA Version 6 as its reference style. This means that there are certain ways you need to format citations when writing about research you have read. 

Below are some links and attachments that you may find helpful in developing your referencing. Referencing is a skill that you will need to develop just like any other, different support tools work for different people.

This link gives specific information on how to reference the Australian Curriculum and Early Years Learning Framework which you will use throughout your Education studies.

Sometimes using a tool can assist with your referencing although these always need to be double checked. Students can access Endnote via SOL http://www.swinburne.edu.au/library/referencing/references-endnote/ 

Others find the built in word feature handy but you will need your reference guide handy to know which field to fill out. Here are some tutorials on this feature

As I said referencing takes time to master. The key thing to remember is – where did this information come from???? Imagine if you had put a lot of work into some research – wouldn’t you expect to be acknowledged for it? Start with this in mind and even if you don’t get it 100% correct you will have made an attempt to acknowledge your source.
