President Biden’s Inauguration/Angela Gorman’s poem from that day:

During Presidents Biden inauguration i enjoyed listening to Angela Gormans poem. She expressed it so well and talked about being being a unity and hoping one day we can come together. It made me think about how corrupt our society is and how unfair it is. I agreed with her poem about we should leave that society behind and come together to be as one. I think that this was important to the chicano culture, not just chicanos but all of us, it showed all of us should be as one. This is what we have been serving for and I hope one day it would be done.

During the Black history month assignment I was learned many tings regarding there situations. We learned about With the 13th documentary, I learned of the unfairness in incarcerations between race, especially African Americans. I read quote regarding this situation, addressing it "being products our ancestors chose", yes but we have the power to change that, to make this place a better place. I think learning about what other cultures went through was very essential. In order for us to from a unity we must really our mistakes that we inflicted upon others in order to come together.

The Devil's Highway (book, padlet and essay

After reading about "the Devils highway" I learned what it was and how dangerous it is. Many people form Mexico take these risks to come from there to the US. It can be very dangerous since its in the desert and it gets really hot so many have died from heat exposure. A group called welton-26/ yuma-14, faced many dangerous occurrence where 14 men died. I think this assmgent was very important to learn from latino/chicano culture. I never heard about the devils highway before and learning about this made me really how people are willing to take these very dangerous risks to come here for a better life.

I learned many new things with this topic, such as other dangers in crossing from Latin America to the US. Boat smuggling was a big issue when we were reading about devils highway. I learnt that people such as the smugglers can seen as good but also as evil, taking that much people on a boat would risk their health and endanger them. I was also able to write a card to Migrant Children and learned about their circumstance they were having to face in those facilites they were being held in. And with reading articles about immigrants I also learnt how they were being treated and the things they had to face. I think this was very important to lear about in the chicano culture, to learn about how they were being treated. My favorite thing from this topic was being able to send letters of support for the migrant children, I was thankful we were given the opportunity to write to them.

Some very well known Latin American poets were Pablo neurda and Jose Marti. I previously learnt about them in my Espanol class and learning them in latin lit was great since I was able to read poems athey wrote that were very interesting. Both poets liked to write about certain things, one liked to write about politics but would have to be careful since talking about politics can get you hurt. I really enjoyed reading there poems, even if there poems were not about chicano culture It was very essential since we got to read there artwork and I enjoyed it. I think reading there poems made me really enjoy this class more.

Writing your own poetry

I was able to learn about poems using the ABBA style as well as the song verse style. In my espanol class we analyzed many poems but the ABBA forma confused me a lot but with this class I was able to learn this type of style more better. I was also able to learn how to put my emotions and thought in to a poem and it made me think about how poets such as Pablo nerd and Jose Marti were very influential even if a poem one wrote about was just about a tomato. I made me realize that people love many things and even a tomato can have an importance to someone. Although this might not have done a lot with chicano couture I was able to talk about my root and my chicano culture in one of my poems. I was able to express how I feel about the cirumstances living here and how we must change as a society.

Overall I enjoyed learning about this topic. I think ym favoitre part of this was learning about poem and how chicanos and other minorities are treated. One of my favorite things we did was writing to migrant children, I was really thankful we were given the opputinuty to write to them. I also enjoyed reading the devils highway book, I think this helped me learn about the dangers of coming here, and they did it to have abetter life which in my opinion is very inspiring. I think that everything we did was important so nothing should be taken out. Although maybe next year you can add more things about other culture since I found learning about other cultures very interesting.
