Beijing is well known for its ancient history, this includes its several dynasties like, Yuan, Ming, Qing and others. Some other places of historic interest in this city include, the yìhéyuán, (The summer palace), the Tiāntán (Temple of Heaven) and the ChángChéng, (The Great Wall). 
Beijing is located in the north-east of China and is also the country's capital.
The original layout of the city and older historical buildings are still here today, as the people of Beijing have kept these sights in perfect condition for everyone to visit.

Beijing is placed at the meeting point of the Xishan and Yanshan Mountain Ranges. The city is currently laying itself on pretty flat territory that widens itself out to the east and south direction of china. Beijing consists of now 6 city districts, (as there were 8 before), 8 suburban districts and 2 rural counties.
The major city covers a landmass of 16,807.8 km2.

Green/ Yellow - Far North Districts

Located at the north of Beijing are a large colony of mountains which belong to the colony of the Yanshan Range, some of the mountains include the Badaling and Jundu.
There are many rivers in Beijing including Chaobai, Juma and Yongding. These rivers cut through the mountains flow into the Hai River and which eventually empties into the Bohai Sea.

Culture in Beijing is so elaborate and complicated that it deserves way more attention than a few paragraphs but I will try to do my best in a few. Beijing culture and tradition is most prominently shown in festivals and religion. Cooking and making food together on festival or celebration days is very cultural for locals in Beijing:
  • Guanxi
  • Reqing 
  • Li
  • Keqi
  • Chinese New Year
What do all these titles have in common? They are all traditions that are very special in Chinese/Beijing culture.

Beijing's most famous locally produced food is Peking Duck. Peking Duck is named after Beijing's old title and is a mixture of Duck, vegetables and very thin pancakes. 
Huaiyang Cuisine is also very prominent in the city and has been consumed and praised since ancient times in Beijing.
Huaiyang cuisine includes:
  • Dàzhǔ Gānsī (Finley cut chicken, ham and tofu in broth)
  • Jade Shaomia (Pork and Locally sourced Plants)
  • Shīzi tóu or Lions Head (Braised pork meatballs)
  • Xīazi jǐaomiàn (Noodles with shrimp and pork dumplings)
  • Hòupí Xīangzhū (Fatty Pork Slices)
In Beijing the most locally used language is Mandarin.
Beijing is a large Megacity with a population of over 21.5 million people. With 150 000 and counting people homeless on the streets and 300 000 (including those) below the poverty line of $1.25 USD a day.

  • Buses
  • Subway
  • Taxis
The most common mode of transport out of these three is subway. The subway is used frequently to easily access places in the city. The Beijing subway system is soon to be the largest in the world. With a low price of 2RMB for a single journey you can see why locals use this mode of transport more frequently.
As Beijing is a Megacity you can expect a level of bad traffic, unfortunately this is one of the characteristics that this city endures. On of the it's most famous traffic jams Beijing experienced is the “50 lane traffic jam” where thousands of commuters were trapped for several hours. The traffic is starting to clear up but this is a slow process.
Communication with other people locally and in other countries is easily accessible as they have many mailboxes, shipping techniques and easy routes.

One recurring problem in Beijing is pollution as there are many producing factories in this city. This city can easily dim down this problem by stopping producing so many items or using greener ways to make the city more environmentally friendly.
Some inventions and visions that the city has for itself are: 
  • The Belt Road initiative                                                                                    (This is a development strategy proposed by Beijing to expand its economic leadership through a wide program of building infrastructure throughout the city and possibly others)
  • The Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall                                                             (This is a very urbanised planning museum that features a scale model of the entire metropolitan city, as well as 3D multimedia exhibits of current situation, history and future planning on how to lead Beijing's Urbanization.)
  • The Compass                                                                                                (The compass is one of the most innovative creations of ancient history, you are able to use it for navigation and orientation purposes. It shows the direction most relative to your geographical cardinal placement.)
  • Gunpowder                                                                                                    (This special powder, [also known as black powder] is the world's earliest known chemical explosive. It's a mix of commonly found chemicals consisting of charcoal, Sulfur and potassium nitrate. Beijing invented this tool to defend itself from prey and attackers)
