Book Review from Great Kid Books

In Auggie & Me, Palacio delves into three secondary characters from Wonder: Julian, Christopher and Charlotte. This is definitely NOT a sequel--the action takes place before and during the same time as Wonder. It does not tell the story of what happens to Auggie after Wonder finishes. But it is a companion novel (or rather three short books) best read after Wonder, "an expansion of Auggie's world," as Palacio writes in her introduction.

The three characters at the center of these short books were all impacted by Auggie, but these are their stories. We get to understand Julian, how his nightmares affected the way he reacted to Auggie, how his mother kept making excuses for him as opposed to helping him take responsibility for his actions. Palacio doesn't justify or defend Julian's actions, but she helps readers see inside him. And she lets Julian, who was so awful to Auggie in Wonder, go through his own transformation.

Families and teachers will enjoy reading Auggie and Me aloud precisely for the way it leads to conversations, just like Wonder did. There are times that reading Julian's voice may be difficult, with his casual cruelty and naive declaration that he didn't mean to hurt anyone. And Charlotte sounds a lot like an insecure kid at times. But these voice rang true to me, and they let readers see inside other kids.
https://www.amazon.com/Auggie-Me-Three-Wonder-Stories/dp/1101934859

In the book review for the novel Auggie and Me, "Great Kid Books" explains the roles and positions of some of the characters in the book and how some of their actions could change a persons feelings toward another in a heartbeat. "Great Kid Books" is also trying to explain how a lot of the characters in this book demonstrates how to be kind and brave, and when you are respecting someone they will treat you with kindness in return, and I strongly agree with this statement. The reviewer also writes about the bullies in the story. He or she talks about how harsh and cruel they are to the other characters and explained how it could be difficult when reading for some people. The reviewer also explained how families and teachers will enjoy reading this book. I enjoyed reading Auggie and Me throughout the first quarter of school and it definitely shows me the way I should always look at person, and that is what is on the inside, not the outside.

For my symbolic image I chose a Kiwi. The reason I chose the kiwi is because it relates to Auggie Pullman. Auggie Pullman was born with a face disorder, and is not the most attractive person, but on the inside Auggie is one of the nicest kids in his class. This relates to the Kiwi because on the outside, the fruit is hairy and tacky and just does not look tasty, but when you cut it open the kiwi becomes beautiful with bright green colors. This is why I believe the kiwi relates to Auggie.

The conflict in the novel, "Auggie and Me, The Julian Chapter" is that a young boy named Auggie Pullman feels left out of school because of a bullying problem. Auggie started to feel left out and he knew the reason for this was because of his face disorder. Everyone at his new school makes fun of him, and they all refuse to start a conversation because of his appearance. Auggie always tries to ignore it but always ends up feeling bad. His problem is the kids at his school are looking at him on the outside, thinking that he could be a monster, and they are not thinking about how his personality could be, and how good of a friend he would end up being.

The conflict in "Auggie and Me, The Julian Chapter" is the main character, Auggie, has a serious bullying problem. The reason so many kids are picking on him is because he is different then everybody else. Auggie Pullman was born with a serious face disorder and everybody in his school picks on him for this and this this is not fair. It is not fair that somebody that looks different than normal should be treated poorly. Every soul should be treated with equal respect. I also believe that when your bullying someone, put yourself in their shoes and think about all of the rude things that you have said, and how you would react to those dreadful statements that you have been saying. In the story, Auggie Pullman is kind, brave, and respectful, and I think if none of them could see that, then they

I believe the main theme of this book is the famous, "Do not judge a book by its cover." I think this is the theme because in my in the book Auggie is very under rated. He is an extraordinary kid, but every seems to look at him in a different way because of appearance. Just because he is different then everybody else, does not mean he should be treated different. This theme was shown throughout the book.

This quote seemed to be very important in this book. When it says, "Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings,". That statement is the main purpose throughout the book and had a huge impact on Auggie as he tries to make friends during the school year.
