The literary device term that I got was mood there are many examples in which the author uses words and phrases in this story to create a certain mood. One quote that shows this is on page 190 of the text. "He strayed away by himself from the watchers whom he had placed in ambush on the crest of the hill and wandered far down the steep slopes amid the wild tangle of undergrowth, peering through the tree trunks and listening through the whistling and skirling of the wind and the restless beating of the branches for sight or sound of the marauders." This quote from the text creates a suspenseful and almost eerie feeling for the reader. This also helps contribute to the tension that there is in the story between the 2 characters.

We got the literary term mood which is the way the story feels to the reader and the atmosphere of the overall story. An example of mood is,"I never thought to have wanted to do anything other than hate you all my life, but I think I have changed my mind about things too, this last half-hour. And you offered me your wine flask...Ulrich von Gradwitz, I will be your friend" This quote shows an example of mood because it lightens up the tension between the two men, changing the mood from strict and serious to have a more lighthearted and friendly atmosphere within the story. This quote also helps explain the friendship that just developed between both of the characters.
