This also ensures that all students are learning the same thing instead of splitting them up for all content learning. I think mini-lessons are good methods of teaching new skills, because they get the point across quickly which keeps students attention. I then want to use the Daily 5 or something similar for stations to get students practicing those new skills. I will be able to work with small groups during this time, which will allow me to correct and give feedback to make sure they are understanding. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions and know that everyone learns differently and has different needs. From this weeks lecture it was super beneficial to see the breakdown of most effective time management for a reading block, now I know in order to keep students engaged and motivated I should try to stick to 25 minutes of whole group instruction and 48 minutes of small group. I would like to monitor my students needs and select who and what I would be working on during small group time. This could include writing, rhyming, and using teaching strategies like blending or segmentation. Depending on the information I will be delivering to students, I plan to have my whole class instruction consist of 15-30 minutes. After whole class instruction, if students do not have questions, and I am confident they understand what is expected of them, then I will send them off to engage in small group instruction. I believe small group instruction is important because learning collaboratively helps students learn how to work with different types of learners and develop social and interpersonal skills. As the teacher, I will check in with every group to make sure they are on task and assist accordingly. I will also make sure to group students with various skills, so they can assist each other in different ways.
