Douglass' speech was a very thought through and had a lot of meaning in the writing. He writes how he respects the Declaration of Independence. He believes that he can not participate in celebrating the Fourth of July. Douglass adds that if the citizens of America believe that slaves are "men", they should be treated as such. Douglas believes that the Fourth of July is a day and celebration to remember the gross injustice and cruelty he faced to believe he was the constant victim.

The main ideas from Frederick Douglass' speech are hypocrisy and truth. Douglass shares how the Fourth of July holiday doesn't include everyone, and raises the question of how can someone, who the holiday doesn't include, celebrate it? This was the central idea of his speech. He mentions how this is an example of Americas hypocrisy because they claim "Liberty and Justice for all" when in reality, this isn't true. A symbol that reminds me/represents this speech would be fireworks because that is a big thing that goes on during the Fourth of July. People from all around America set off fireworks as a celebration. This symbol reminds me off the speech because fireworks, like I said before are used as a celebration, but the sound of a firework can sound like an explosion or a gun. The irony here is that fireworks are pretty and are used for entertainment, but on the other side of it if you aren't looking at it directly, it can be scary, alarming and unsettling.

Douglasses speech was a very powerful speech that conveyed and brought to light the injustice and hypocrisy of America. America states to be the land of the free, however slaves did not have the ability to fully grasp their right to freedom. Douglass portrays that celebrating the fourth of july is a holiday he will not be able to celebrate, because blacks were not free. It wasnt independence day for him, it was independence say for the white population of America. He made sure to pinpoint why America is a hypocrite, and why in the first place that thats a holiday not everyone can celebrate.

Frederick Douglass' speech was very important because he talked about how the Fourth of July is to celebrate the freedom and justice for all in America, and he writes about how he feels he can not participate in this, because of the way slaves were treated. He does not participate in the Fourth of July celebrations because he does not want to celebrate for a day that disrespected the slaves and how they lived in control of other people. The salves were not free like everyone else in America, and he does not believe this day should be celebrated by him.

This symbol relates to the speech becausethe chain symbolizes breaking free and finally getting freedom after years of being controlled and disrespected.

Douglass' speech was a significant and important to the Abolitionist movement. He talks about how the 4th of July is mostly pointed towards the white people of America. He says this because the country is flourishing by slaves doing all the work in the South, and they can not celebrate freedom if they are not free themselves. America says that "all men are created equal". When it comes to being a white, christian, male that owns land those words apply to you. Not if you were a slave, because you were seen as less than the other humans.
This symbol represents the slaves breaking the chains that they were locked up in for hundreds of years. They just wanted freedom and equality and were determined to get that.

Douglass' speech is a meaningful speech because he talks about the 4th of July and why he believes he should not celebrate it. Since it is not right if blacks are not free, when 4th of July is for freedom for all. Which is showing how they are hypocritical since not all are free. So he has good reasons to not celebrate it. The slaves were not free like they should and how America says everyone is free. If they say everyone is created equally, it is not right. Since of slavery and it not getting stopped for so many years. Even still today with racism towards blacks. He decides to not celebrate this day because of this and how unfairly blacks were treated unlike whites and he does not want to respect a holiday that disrespected blacks.
This symbol this represents the slaves and how they are being held back from their freedom. The chains represent how they can not get out of slavery with no freedom and no rights like everyone else.

In Douglass's speech he talks about why the Fourth of July is a holiday that he cannot celebrate and proceeds to explain why. He talks about how the Fourth of July is supposed to celebrate our freedom but him and all the other former slaves were never really 'free' so that is a holiday he does not feel comfortable celebrating.
This image is a good symbol because it shows how the slaves wanna be free and how they are working to fight for their freedom so they can properly celebrate the Fourth of July.

Douglass' speech is significant and important because he discusses the defects of celebrating the Fourth of July. He states that the average white, christian male celebrates it because they believe America is a free country with "liberty and justice for all" which is false to the black individuals. His main point was, why should he celebrate and praise this holiday when black individuals were enslaved, dehumanized, and treated as an outcast by society simply for the color of their skin.

I feel as i f this picture/symbol correlates with the speech because it shows a person of color ringing out blood from the American flag. This could represent the blood of their ancestors that America was basically built on. this picture shows that America wasn't a place of freedom and it has a dark past, which isn't something to celebrate.

In Frederick Douglass' speech, he discussed how people celebrate the 4th of July to commemorate the United States of America's freedom and Justice. He explains his opinions on this holiday and how he does not agree with it, because of Americas past history with slavery. He argues why he would never want to celebrate something that isn't true and that isn't fair to himself and many other people.

This symbol connects to Frederick Douglass' speech because it shows hands chained together which shows that even now and even though it was fought for, there still is not total freedom in the United States of America.

In his speech he talks about how while they were celebrating a day of "freedom" it felt more like a day of white people hiding the terrible things they did.

The symbol i choose reflects on the speech because it shows the American flag but in between it is a person of color and they are trapped and only half into America

The main idea of the speech was to share his perspective on the fourth of July. A holiday which celebrates freedom for all in this lovely country, as some would say. But that isn't the reality of Fredrick Douglass's life here in america, or thousands and thousands of others reality. His speech highlights what its like for him to be in america while having dark skin. Why should he celebrate a country and its people that dont celebrate or even accept him? This speech mentions that the fourth of July to a slave is a day of fiction - pretending America is something that its not and never was for a slave, free.

This symbol shows a man, a black man, enslaved and questioning why they dont view him as he is, a man, a human. I chose this because this is why we shouldnt expect people lie Frederick to celebrate a holiday when this is whats being celebrated did to them. This symbol doesnt even portray 1/80th of what it was like to be black in the U.S., but it gives us an understanding.
