Initially, she and her husband wanted to leave to Madinah from Mecca. However, their plans were disrupted when members of Umm Salamah’s tribe stopped them on their departure.

They asked her husband to continue his journey to Madinah, Umm Salamah had to remain with her family, while her sons were taken by her tribe.

After some time, one of her tribe members saw her grieving and returned her son too

She went to Madinah alone with her children because no one was willing to accompany her, only dependent on Allah who was her Defender and Protector.

She reunited with her husband, and stayed with him throughout until his passing at the Battle of Uhud.

Before her husband passed away he prayed and asked Allah to give his family a protector and provider like him. And he also asked Him to give Umm Salamah a husband who would give her neither sorrow nor hardship.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also prayed for him.

Several men proposed to Ummu Salamah but she refused and rejected. Then, Prophet s.a.w proposed to her. She eventually accepted the proposal, and Allah granted both hers and Abu Salamah's prayer, and she married the Prophet s.a.w in the month of Syawal, in the 4th, year after Hijrah.
