This is important because it's clearly dividing America as we know it, but to be completely honest it's always been this way we've just never been so close together as a society until now with social media.

Something I learned from this video was that banning books have been happening for a long time. Also, how classic books are now being banned for it's content it has and for what it's trying to teach people/kids.

This matters because it's not allowing the rights for kids to see and read a book that they can connect with and basically saying that their experiences are invalid.

Something I learned from this video is that many of the books being banned are by marginalized authors and one possible aim people have for banning these books is to stop the spread of marginalized stories. This matters because everyone should be able to read books about who they are, and if there are no books like that people will start to feel shunned because of their identity. It also seems unconstitutional to be preventing free speech by banning books with marginalized stories.

The video about banning books was more of a summary of everything that I already knew, where books written by marginalized authors with controversial topics are often taken down. Some of the ones suggested were kind of ridiculous, ex. Students rights? That is a red flag, and then classics like 1984 and the giver being taken down are also confusing. Having people grow up believing that they are alone in there experiences is not a way the next generation-or this one-should be raised

Books can get banned based on what other people think about the books but in reality if those books get banned it doesn't mean that if those books represent a community then that community isn't normal. And you should do whatever you feel like doing and not have books impact your identity because that's what you get to decide.

I learned that a lot of the challenged books were because they were claimed to be sexually explicit. I believe there is absolutely no good reason for a book to be banned; it should be the reader's choice of material. I think the real reason that a person would want to ban a book would because they think the younger readers are have not matured, or they strongly disagree with what the author has written and they are afraid that maybe their child for example, will then have certain beliefs because they were convinced by this book.

Something I learned from this video is that the history behind burning books usually involved Religion, Morality, Politics or LGBTQ. This has been going on for centuries and even books that got turned into movies are being banned. This matters because people should be allowed to read what they would like, if one person says they don't like an apple, do you cut down the apple tree you've had in your garden since you were a kid? no, because these books aren't life threatening in any way, they're only educational and banning them is unethical especially since the majority of these books are lgbtq or race related.
