Argument no. 3: Many people with intellectual challenges cannot use their voice in the way neurotypical people can. Failing to educate the public, not providing the necessary resources some need creates an unhealthy nation, allowing those with mental struggles to be taken advantage of.

Argument 2a (INTRO COUNTER): The internet is powerful and can be used to further national progress and decrease mental health stigma, portraying representation in an accurate light, allowing people to become educated while reading and sharing personal stories (in other words, could argue that the stigma isn’t that bad because people are aware of the stigma itself via social media/other outlets).

Argument no. 6: The role of race in how people with mental health impairments are treated is undeniably alarming, reflecting stigmas within cultures, harming those who need resources, going against American values (“American dream,” “land of the free,” etc.)

Argument no. 5: Individuals with mental health struggles are not only mistreated in the criminal justice system, but other institutions such as schools and medical facilities; another dangerous reflection of misinformed people with titles.

Argument 2b (REBUTTAL): Representation of mental challenges, although necessary to combat stigma, can become detrimental when experiences are simplified or romanticized. Such highlights the need for realistic representation (in books, media, pop culture, etc.), as the problem with having an "outfit" for certain kinds of disabilities is that not all are the same, nor are they all things that can be "masked."

This is next because...some may argue that people talk about mental health all the time on social media. A way to transition would be to bridge from stigma/perceptions to internet perceptions. Hence, people are educated in some way regarding mental health issues and not uninformed at all. The second part of this argument is a rebuttal to the prior argument. Mental health conditions/disabilities should not be romanticized and people’s experiences should not be oversimplified.
