Dorian was confused about why Sybil performed so horribly on the stage. Sybil said that it was obvious, that the reason was the love they both developed for each other which opened her soul to an understanding. The understanding was that acting made her do and say things she didn't want to say or do. Dorian, in disdain, told her how she ruined herself for him and how she had now lost his interest. He left Sybil sobbing and begging on the floor not to leave him but he didn't bat an eye. After Dorian wandered around the dark streets the entire night, he found himself in Basil's studio. He decided to examine the portrait of himself. He saw something odd about the portrait as if it was getting a bit gloomier. Henry explained that Sybil was dead. Dorian started to have an emotional breakdown, but Henry calmed him by saying that that was the most romantic thing she could have done in the name of love.
