Thank you for trusting me and believing that I’d do well in this role. I’ve learned so much over the past six months, and I really appreciate the chance to work in Chicago and get to know you better. You’re a great leader with such a natural, peer-like leadership style—you know exactly how much to push and when to step in to help and support.

I also really appreciate how authentic you are in our 1-on-1s. It’s been fun hearing about your flying lessons on weekends, and honestly, managing to exercise daily while juggling so many roles at work is super impressive. Thank you for showing me your analysis tools and encouraging me to look for ways to improve our tools.

Your deep knowledge and passion for the field really motivate me to keep learning and hopefully take on the full responsibility of a structural engineer one day. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter.

It has been an incredible experience working with you these last 5.5 years. You took a chance on me right out of college and were always willing to teach me and kept pushing me to be the best engineer I could be. It has been a pleasure working with you for almost 6 years now. Although I've not been in your direct team until recently, you've always been present to help when I've had questions, needed guidance, or just to chat at the end of a long day. Your steadfast commitment to ensuring the success of your team is clear, and anyone would be lucky to have you as their manager. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'll greatly miss your expertise, quippy humor, and good nature. The team won't be nearly the same without you.

I regret not having the opportunity to learn more from you and to get to know you better over the years. Alas, I am but a lowly site civil engineer and only got to work with you on a select few projects. Jokes aside, it was always encouraging knowing I would be going to a site with you and would have your support, as you never made me feel incompetent, subordinate, or disrespected; I always appreciated and respected the way you talked to myself and others.

I wish you the best of luck at your new company but I doubt you'll need luck, your new team will surely benefit tremendously from your addition. Thanks for everything and please don't be a stranger, it would be great to get lunch now and again to catch up!

There so much to get to… I appreciated the chats, discussions, debates, disagreements, devil's advocates, what-ifs, and here’s-the-deals with my sometimes less than satisfied “yippee skippee” responses. Thanks for always taking the time to provide the extra explanation on something that wasn't making sense and helping me get there. The late nights were difficult, but you always jumped in and started helping with the to-do list, and that speaks volumes. I’m indebted for the opportunity you gave me to diversify my professional experience.

You have been such an integral part of so many successful -and challenging- projects at Patrick/RINA, always being pulled in because of your trusted perspective and proven expertise as a subject matter expert. It’s never easy to see a colleague you've truly enjoyed working with move on, but I know you're off to solve all the world's problems somewhere that will be gaining a great asset -- and probably some good stories, too!

I will certainly miss running into you at the office at the most random times, not expecting to see anyone, even during the COVID era when no one else was coming in, or end of the day and you'd still be there. It's always been a pleasure catching up and hearing about the fascinating things you've been working on -- whether it's a unique project out west, questions about contracts and insurance, your latest classroom teachings at Ben-U, or flying to a municipal airport for breakfast while logging flight hours.

Reading through all the kind words written here, it’s clear you’ve left a lasting imprint on everyone you’ve worked with. I think we can all agree that the next time you take off for breakfast at one of those small-town airport diners, you’ll need to bring a few of us along. In August 2022, when I sat newly-hired at my admin desk, you came to let me know the larger staples were mixed in with the normal staples in our print area - this is my first impression of you.

I am very fortunate my work with you expanded outside of staples. Though I have never reported to you, it has been a privilege to work alongside you and grow within this company having someone like you in leadership. It is clear you were a mentor to many; your care, advocacy and hard-work is leaving a lasting impression on us all no matter what point we are at in our careers. Your new team is oh so lucky to have you.

I am sending you well wishes both professionally and personally. When the day finally arrives, and I need a personal pilot, you will be my first call.
