Gothic Elements. Isolation, atmosphere. In the book she is seemingly trapped in Gateshead and cannot leave willingly. The atmosphere is always usually gloomy or depressed as per it is usually dark and raining outside.

Gothic Elements: Isolation is a main one because she is isolated in this property where it seems no one cares about her and she is even as somewhat of a burden, so she can't talk to anyone about her desires or needs.

Areas of Exploration: The weather is described as rainy, cold, and somber in the first paragraph to set the mood. Wuthering Heights also did this by using weather to show the tone of the scene or story.

The difference in perspective is how Lloyd and Jane would describe her family. That Jane have seen what under their mask and Lloyd have not.
