To make the scene more paperbirds we added movement. For example when I said ‘stop’ we all stand up and put our hand up in a ‘stop’ position. And when I say ‘pull over’ three times the first time josh moves his hand I a way where it looks like moving a steering wheel to the side, when I say it the second time I repeat the same movement as josh and for the final time nell also repeats the same movement.

We chose this song as the scene is set in a house party that is hosted by some teenagers in America. In this scene we are acting out a accident where the driver was someone who was attending that party and was driving under the influence of alcohol. The crash took place in 2009 and the song was also released in that year, we wanted a song which correlated with the time period of the accident. The song is released when the car accident scene is starting, the song goes good with the freeze frames as there are 6 beats and 6 freeze frames so when the beats begin we change the freeze frame. Also, in the song when it goes ‘whoa whoa oh oh’ the first time we thyroxine our bodies side to side to show the audience that the driver is loosing control of the car. When that is repeated straight after we sway side to side more violently and at the end we end up in a position where it shows the audience that we have crashed.

in this image we were finding where. to place the boxes and the chair for the verbatim scene. the chair was there because there would then be one chair and two boxes at the back and two poses at the front of the stage. they are placed chair, space, box, space, box and at the front another box placed at the front in one of the spaces and another box in the other space. this then makes some kind of triangular shape. when the scene is progressing were end up standing on the three boxes in the middle with me at the point in the back and josh and nell on the front two boxes. once agin we end up moving agin in this scene when josh is listing the drugs which his character has taken, we all step down at the same time when josh mentions the first drug and move to our new positions every time he says another one. when josh finishes me and nell are on the front two boxes and josh is standing on the floor between us behind the boxes. when I say two things in my next line me and nell are Bothe sitting down at the end of the scene.

The person is also a teenage girl, and as I am also a teenage girl I don’t have to drastically change my voice to make it older or the change it to make it more male.
Naturalism voice - the character is a very angry teenage girl who has to deal with her father’s alcoholism. So when portraying Danielle I have to show the audience that I am extremely angry with how my father is acting and what he is saying. Once again being a teenage girl I don’t have to drastically change my voice.
My original voice - in the first scene I have to act like a teenager partying and drinking alcohol. Also in this scene there is music playing so I have to shout to make sure the audience the other people in my group can hear what I am saying. We also have to act a little drunk with the rambling and the souring of the voice.

I’m this scene we are in a party so we are drunkenly talking and introducing ourselves to the audience which is a paper birds technique as they also introduce themselves to the audience, we are then playing ourselves in the opening scene. We are also planning on have flashing lights to represent the strobe lighting which would be at a party and we will have a song playing in the background which was popular in the time that this scene is set. The scene is very minimalist with props with there only have four cubes on stage where we are all on different levels, we also only have one handheld prop which is a vodka bottle which as characters we pass around between us to drink. In this scene we would also have to shout to make sure the audience can hear us but at a party you have to shout to make sure that your friends can hear you

However, in this scene we are not talking we are miming that we are having an argument until the movement begins. In the background we are repeating using the song from the first scene to represent that this scene is happening the same time as the first scene. We then start mining the reckless driving which Josh is doing as Ethan and when he starts to loose control we start the freeze frames. In these freeze frames we are exaggerating us panicking and then when the music ends we end the scene frozen in different positions to show that we have crashed. In this scene when the freeze frames start we have the lights flashing red and blue to represent the lights from emergency services. The colours will change when we change freezeframes.

Scene 3
In the verbatim scene we decided on including movement into this scene. When first structuring this scene we first started out by simply sitting in the boxes in a row. However with paper birds being our practitioner, we added some techniques which they have in their work. We then decided to mine what the are saying, for example, when it says “all three of them did a shot” we mime taking a shot. At the beginning of the scene we will have a small piece of audio which says “what’s your name?” Which is the voice of the interviewer who is interviewing Ethan, Star and Garrett. When Garrett says “bang” when he’s describing the crash we all say “bang” the same time and jump on the box which is in front of us. The lighting for this scene is basic with enough light to flood the stage. We thought that having a movement piece for this scene is appropriate because by using movement it exaggerates what we are saying and tells the audience what is happening. When transitioning between this scene and the next we use paperbrids style of unnaturalistic performance style by speaking to the audience when moving props around on the stage.

Scene 4
In this scene we combined verbatim and original script to create this scene. At the beginning nell is playing furniture Danielle and the line she speaks is verbatim as it is from an answer from the questionnaire we sent out, as the person who answered that question was a male and it was about his father was an alcoholic we changed the gender of the parent from a woman to a man. Also, in this scene the lighting would be blue, however the blue light would be a spotlight instead of flooding the stage. For the rest of the scene the lighting would be normal white lighting, flooding the stage with light. When nell is finishing being on stage she passes me a scarf which represents the character Danielle, so the audience knows that this piece of clothing represents a character. When the characters Danielle and Donnie are arguing they move around the stage in an unnaturalistic way to represent the increasing tension from the argument.

Scene 5
In the game show scene we wanted to start the scene with ‘funky’ lighting, we chose this because when a game show starts there are a lot of flashing lights when introducing the game there will also be a game show music to introduce the game and the transitioning between scenes. We added music because it tells the audience what is happening in the scene as the audience will recognise the set up on the stage the music, which is the theme song of ‘tipping point’. We also use paper birds’ technique of presenting information in a fun by way by using a game show. We also directly address the audience when introducing the game to include them. We are also planning on using recordings of an audiences reaction through out this scene to further real the audience that this is a game show. We though this was appropriate to set the information out this way instead of simply stating it because by making in fun and unnaturalistic the audience is more likely to remember this information.

Scene 6
When the scene begins the lighting will be bright, but when the intense heartbeat begins there will be a red light which comes on and off the same time of the heart beats, this tells the audience that Donnie is dying. This scene is very simplistic because we have four boxes lined up to represent a hospital bed and one other bed for the chair which Danielle is sitting on. As the beginning of the scene I pass the scarf which represents Danielle to nell to tell the audience that this character is Danielle and this is the continuation of their story. In this scene we also mention a fact of the cirrhosis which Donnie has to convey the severity of this and what alcohol can do to someone. Throughout this whole scene there is a heart monitor playing, and throughout the scene the beeps on the machine get quicker until a heart beat with more bass starts when the scene is coming to an end and when Danielle leaves the stage the flatline begins tell everyone that Donnie has died. We though it was appropriate to include a heart beat in the background to further represent the characters being in a hospital environment.

Scene 7
For the final scene we decided to do the movement piece from scene 2 again. However, in this scene instead of having the upbeat and fast song from the party scene we changed to a much slower song with no lyrics. We decided to do this as it heavily contrasts with the first song and also to convey sadness. When we are sat down on the boxes audio of the police calls from the alluenza crash play in the background further contrasting with the first movement piece. Also, instead of using freezeframes, we move in slow motion from pose to pose exaggerating them to make the scene more dramatic. Throughout this scene the lighting is simply blue as the colour blue represents sadness, we also chose the colour red to replace the blue when the scene finishes, when the crash has happened as the colour red represents danger.
