In the 1970s when they didn't know all the info they do now , life expectancy for individuals with sickle cell disease was about 14 years. They didn't know how to control or treat it and they would die young. Today, many individuals live into their 40s and longer, because we have more ways to treat it. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>
