Conspiracy theories have played a large role in dividing the people, especially left and right-wing parties. Although belief in at least one conspiracy holds a place in more than 50% of Americans, the high discrepancy between groups of people has create a sort of animosity. Due to this high animosity and complete contrast in beliefs, it is difficult for parties to cooperate or find middle ground. Neither group is willing to listen to the other making it near impossible for the parties to reach the best decisions for their decisions. In addition, public agendas are pushed back more and more delaying necessary infrastructural, educational, political, and scientific decisions.

Although being a first world country and having some of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the world, the United States struggled to slow down the rapid climb in infections and deaths to COVID-19. "Multiple studies have shown a relationship between conspiracy beliefs and a lower intended healthcare-seeking behavior, greater mistrust in healthcare workers and lower willingness to adhere to social distancing interventions" (National Library of Medicine).

There has been a growing following of the antiscience movement. Many people are stuck on old ways or beliefs and when new scientific research and conclusions are reached, most find it difficult to switch. As a result, an uneducated nation results in uneducated decisions relating to science.

Religion plays a large role in the antiscience movement. Due to one's upbringing in religion, it is difficult to conform to the ideas and conclusions of science. In addition, right-wing citizens have a higher tendency to create, believe, and back up conspiracy theories while left-wing tend to shy away. Right-wing citizens also have heightened distrust in government officials and powerful entities.

Solution 1: Public awareness

The first step is fighting misinformation. To counter misinformation, it is recommended that political parties adopt messages promoting common interests rather than nationalistic or politically motivated narratives. Additionally, scholars and social media companies should conduct effective misinformation inoculation strategies, emphasizing the recognition and rejection of conspiracy theories. Constructive dialogues should be encouraged among individuals with differing political views for fostering mutual understanding. Of course, knowing credible sources to attain information is the best solution. Ultimately, the public should be able to effectively recognize, analyze, and comprehend sources of information for proper support or rejection of politically-driven ideas or conspiracy theories.

Transparency is crucial for fostering trust in government. The degree of transparency within an organization influences members' ability to monitor its performance and engage in political processes. Transparency is evident in public decision-making by both governments and non-profit organizations, playing a significant role in the discourse on good governance. In the digital age, the Internet, social media, and open data movements can facilitate access to real-time government information. However, the Internet and social media also serves as a platform for the spread of misinformation.
