1. People of color are 1.5 times more likely to live in an area with poor air quality than white people.

2. Mortgage lenders draw

red lines around communities that they do not want to give loans to, largely targeting low-income communities of color. This has combined

* to keep polluting industries and car-choked highways away from white neighborhoods and have turned communities of color into sacrifice zones, where residents are forced to breathe dirty air and suffer the many health problems associated with it.

3. Environmental racism is a form of systemic racism disproportionately burdens communities of color. Outdoor laborers, including the estimated three billion migrant and seasonal farmworkers in the United States, are among the most vulnerable. They are among the least equipped and have less power.

4. - stay as far as you can from heavily trafficked roads

- use the recirculating setting to limit the amount of polluted air that gets inside.

- stay away from harmful smoke as much as you're able

5. One of the most prominent examples of environmental racism in Greater Houston is the deliberate placement of toxic waste dumps and industrial facilities that emit high levels of pollution in and near predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods.

These communities need to use the power of boycott and voice themselves.

1.The Clean Air Act is a comprehensive federal law that gives the U.S.

Environmental Protection

Agency (EPA) authority to regulate air pollutants and polluting industries. This act authorizes EPA to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) to protect public health and public welfare and to regulate emissions of hazardous air pollutants.

2. Congress designed the

Clean Air Act to protect public health and welfare from different tvpes of air pollution caused by a diverse array of pollution sources

3. The clean air act was signed into law in 1970 by President Richard Nixon

4. The Clean Air Act requires the EPA to set national health-based standards for air pollution. The six major pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act's

NAAQS are ozone (03), particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (S02), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and lead (Pb)

5. It amended the Clean Air

Act and reinforced that carbon dioxide emitted from fossil fuels is an air pollutant and that the EPA has the authority, and responsibility, to regulate it.

6. Two completed reversals:

The Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles

Rule Part One: One

National Program and

Formal Notification of

Intention to Withdraw from the Paris Agreement

Two incomplete actions:

Weakening Obama-era

Regional Haze Rule and

Formal Notification of

Intention to Stop

Payments to the Green

Climate Fund

1. According to a new scientific study, one in eight childhood asthma cases are correlated with gas stoves. They produce NOx and carbon monoxide

2. 3 things that can be done to reduce indoor air pollution caused by gas stoves is checking to make sure it vents to the outdoors, using exhaust fans to move air outdoors, and cooking on the back burners, if possible, because the range hood exhausts this area more effectively.

3. Lichens are miniature ecosystems made of fungus and an algae and/or cyanobacteria.

They are good air pollution indicators because to grow, lichens get their nutrients from the air. Because lichens have no roots or protective surface, they cannot filter what they absorb, so anything in the air is taken straight inside. If there are pollutants, it can accumulate in the lichen and can become toxic very quickly. A few indicator species are butterflies, nematodes, and frogs

4. Two main air pollutants that affect lichen growth are nitrogen and Sulphur dioxide.

5. The new air quality standard aims to prevent deadly illnesses linked to pollutants. Long-term exposure can increase the risk of heart disease, lung cancer and chronic kidney disease, and may also be associated with an increased risk of neurological disorders.

6. Black and low-income people often have higher rates of chronic health

Issues such as diabetes or heart disease, and more restricted access to quality health care.
