Some mentally insane characters may do immoral things and the author uses this to show that it is okay to do these things.  Many say that there is no truth and everything is relative.  Also many will say that you need to follow a philosophy of tolerance. This is one of the most hypocritical phrases in the English language. Just saying this means "Your beliefs are stupid and inferior to my beliefs and level of thinking. I will not tolerate your beliefs because they disagree with my (obviously better) ones."  In a society ,such as the one we live in, with declining morals, this is the most common use of these characters in modern literature.  However, impaired characters can provide a positive heartwarming role in novels such as Boo Radley in Harper Lee's classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Using disabled people in literature is not a mistreatment because the literature is not necessarily trying to insult the disabled but rather promote recognition for the disabled. By having Novels promoting disabled people it can cause the readers to take a new perspective on disabled people and their struggles in everyday life. For example in To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee uses the character Boo Radley as a character with disability to show how a society can judge people based off their actions because of their disability. By doing this Harper Lee can give new perspective to a reader who is unaware of the challenges of a learning disability by showing how people throughout the book judge Boo Radley.

Disabled characters are allegorical in media in that they are mainly meant to be shown as the outcasts in society.
    3.When a mentally disabled person shows up in media it is usually put under a microscope and checked for anything deemed as offensive or demeaning to disabled peoples.  Whether this is good for mentally disabled people or not depends on a person's perspective.  On one hand it  suppresses speech against disabled people but on the other hand it unconsciously isolates disabled people by treating them differently.  When a writer decides to put a disabled character in a book that character will almost always have a major impact on the plot because  disabilities are a touchy subject and people do not take it lightly.  This character will be seen as a disabled character. Other books can even make the disabled characters crucial to the plot, or the main, character, as in the book Wonder.  These types of characters often appear to show the extreme variety of people that are in the real world. I believe that this isn't at all mistreatment of those that are disabled. It can even be beneficial, as spreading news of disabled people will benefit sympathy and give us a deeper understanding of what these individuals experience. 2. I believe that in some situations, the mentally disabled could be allegorical. The character's disability could represent something such as fear or evil. They could also symbolize something that does not seem right to society. They themselves could symbolize a specific personality trait.

This is because these forms of media are generally positive and help society understand the plight of people with these unfortunate disabilities.
