Hi!

I'm Lauren Chao, a 3rd year biochemistry major from San Francisco. I love to birdwatch and hike! I am a football/baseball megafan (go Niners, go SF Giants!). I also love Star Wars.
I have LA'd 20B in Spring '21, and 30A in Fall '21.

I took this class in Winter '21 with Dr. Barr. The main objective for mastering course material is to truly and thoroughly understand the concepts. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Ask your TAs/LAs about learning objectives and questions on homework to make sure you understand all concepts 100%. In addition, practice makes perfect! Utilize all the resources given to you over the course (such as homework, discussions, review sessions, etc.). Don't hesitate to contact me if you ever need help!

This will be my second quarter as an LA for 20B.

My advice for Chem 20B is primarily to collaborate during discussions and to do whatever practice problems you can find. Paying attention to details in lecture and going to office hours will also be super helpful for this class!

Chem can be intimidating, but I encourage you not to be scared to reach out to any of us, your TAs, and Dr. Barr. :) We’re here to help you!

Excited to meet you guys!!

I love to spend time at the beach and trying to foods/restaurants around LA. When I'm at home I love playing with my two dogs. I also love watching new TV shows (pls give me recs!).

My best advice for Chem 20B is to do as many practice problems as you can and utilize office hours from the professor, TAs, and LAs. Additionally, reviewing my notes before bed (memory consolidation happens when you're sleeping!) from lectures daily help to learn and stay on top of the material throughout the quarter as opposed to cramming before exams. I am so excited to LA this quarter and can't wait to meet y'all in sections!

I spend my free time baking and exercising. This is my first time LAing so I'm excited to meet you all!
My best advice for Chem 20B is to go to office hours and ask questions, or go and just listen to your peers' questions. Chem can be intimidating so reaching out to the professor, LAs, TAs, and your peers sooner rather than later will make the experience less stressful. We want you to succeed! <3
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Looking forward to meeting all of you!!

Hi everyone!

My name is Nitya and I am a 3rd year biochemistry major. I'm from a small town a little bit north of New York City. I absolutely love all things music; I love singing and I play a few of instruments. I also love to paint and I'm currently trying to learn how to crochet.

This is my second time as an LA and I'm very excited for this quarter. My best advice for this course is to prepare for every lecture! As easy as it is to tune out during lecture and just aimlessly write down the material, if you come into lecture with a general idea of what will be covered, you will probably spend significantly less time studying because you will be much more efficient. Since the professor already has pre-lecture assignments, this should be especially helpful in preparing for lectures. My other recommendation for this course is to do as much practice as possible, and make sure you can explain your thought process throughout the questions to someone else. Although every problem will be different, I find that when I make sure that I can explain every step for each practice problem, the rest become infinitely easier and more intuitive. Also, if you don't understand any step, office hours can be one of the most helpful tools for your success in the class. Good luck and I can't wait to meet all of you!

And, if you have time, I HIGHLY recommend coming to office hours, especially when prepping for your exams. They really do help!! I know everyone has been through so much in the last two years, so please never be afraid to ask for help!

I live about an hour away from LA and I love spending time looking into new restaurants, reading or listening to music. This is my first time being an LA so I'm excited to meet you all :).

I took Chem 20B with Dr. Barr Winter 2021 and it was rough but I do recommend attending office hours as that is the only way you get the answers to the problem sets. You also learn more about the thought process that goes into solving his problems as he does get creative with his exams. His lectures are not as problem solving oriented as his office hours are so definitely set aside some time for them!

Feel free to reach out to any of us or Professor Barr and good luck with the quarter!
