Redesigned Movie Poster

I recreated the "Stand By Me" movie poster for this project. I chose this movie because it has a lot of symbolism (such as the bridge) that I used for the subject of this piece. I also used a quote from the movie about friendship to bring it all together. The colors also bring together the 80s feel of the movie, and the grain in the trees also adds to it.

I really enjoyed painting this piece, especially because the "Candy" project helped me get comfortable and familiar with the watercolors. I liked creating each detailed ingredient, and my favorite to do was the ice in the coffee because it was a challenge.

With this project, I wanted to use it as an opportunity to represent myself. I wanted it to be really chaotic and be similar to a surrealism piece. I was happy with all the colors and the way I put myself on top of the building in the middle of it all.

This was one of my favorite projects I did this quarter. I loved having free range on all of the tools on the digital art app. I liked being able to be creative and create a logo that appealed to me. I was really surprised about how close it resembled me.

Critique: I definitely liked the process and outcome of this project the most. I like the way I blended colors in the background to create a cloudy hazy effect, and it matched the hues of blue in the logo. I also was really proud of the way I learned to use the color selector to match the real colors and tones of my skin and hair.

The amount of freedom we were given with this project definitely gave it the great outcome I believe it had. I used pictures from an old ghost photoshoot I did with a friend, along with the album cover art from two of my favorite albums to create a group of "ghosts and ghouls" and I think it turned out really unique. To bring it together I created a graveyard background using the digital brushes and textures, and then cut out a picture of a tomb to blend both sides.

This project was very enjoyable and went pretty smoothly. I enjoyed experimenting with the watercolors to try to create dimension within the picture. This project taught me how to use different saturations of watercolor to create depth in the candies, which helped me a lot in the next project.

This was my first art project that was assigned as soon as I transferred to Bradshaw. I struggled with this project because I had no prior knowledge or instruction on proportions and how to draw facial features, so I had to teach myself and wing it. From this project I somewhat learned how to draw certain features, however I really struggled with blending the most.

Critique: I think this was one of my worst projects. I struggled to draw proportional features and a normal facial expression, along with not shading correctly. I was really disappointed on how it turned out. I feel that if I spent more time doing trial and error drawings, I would have had a better outcome, or if I had been present for previous lessons that would have taught me how to draw people.

I struggled with this project because of the small details and my own expectations for it. I had my heart set on recreating a picture from my childhood as the "past" and it was way more difficult than I thought. However, in the end I was happy with the way the last two turned out. I really enjoyed using the greens and grays to create mountains and rolling hills in the third square.

Social Issue Project

I was also very interested in this project. The social issue I chose to focus on was homelessness in veterans. I liked this project because we were able to use whatever medium we wanted. I am very confident with acrylic painting, so I got to have a lot of control for this piece.

Critique: This piece was another favorite of mine. I loved the way the textures turned out, along with the colors and small details. I thing the words at the bottom really explain the whole issue, as well as filling empty space. I think the green reflection in the windows also worked really well in this project. I was overall very happy with the way this turned out.

This project was relatively unsuccessful, but mainly because my digital art app was not working at all. It did not allow me to create anything new or undo anything from what I had already done, so I had to resort to colored pencil on paper. I was disappointed that I didn't get to do it digitally.

Critique: This was another one of my least favorite projects. Overall I was just disappointed I couldn't make it the way I wanted using the tools on the digital art app. I never got to experiment with the gradient before jumping into the next project. The colored pencil I used did not blend well, and I was unable to achieve depth in this piece.
