Notes from Underground is a novel by the Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. The story is presented as the rambling memoirs of an unnamed narrator, “The Underground man”. The narrator is a bitter, isolated man who rejects society and rails against rational thought. It is an expression of how modern life has impacted oneself, the overall message of the novel may find itself best accompanied by someone who is looking for an interesting perspective on life.

The Yellow Wallpaper entails the story about a newlywed bride, the narrator, and her obsession with the yellow wallpaper in her nursery. Over time she starts to completely devote her time to it, she starts claiming there is something behind the wallpaper. This thought drives her insane and has her frantic. This entire time her husband, John, pushes her emotions to the side and although he sees her strange behavior he brushes it off, until its too late. I would recommend this book to others, it a short but complex story that keeps you hooked. I rate it 4 stars.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a Gothic fiction book revolving around a portrait of a youthful, beautiful man named Dorian Gray. Seeing his beauty in the portrait, Dorian makes a wish and sells his soul to keep his beautiful appearance eternally. As time passes and people around him grow older, he keeps his young appearance, while noticing that the portrait has captured all of his corrupt sins instead and is physically changing, becoming more and more decrepit, twisted, and evil with time. I would highly recommend reading this book, it offers many questions and insight about the true nature of innocence and beauty as well as following your inner most desires and how social influence affects a person.

This book's preface states that no book is moral or immoral, it should be judged on how well-written it is. This book is extremely well-written and is packed with philosophy. Lord Henry in particular speaks of his views which in turn influence Dorian Gray. They met while Dorian was sitting for a portrait done by the painter, Basil Hallward. Dorian, after being influenced to value his youth and beauty by Henry, wishes that the painting would grow old while he stays young forever. This wish, as well as his Hedonistic influences, have extreme outcomes on his life. I highly recommend this book as it presents a lot of interesting philosophies in an intense storyline and a poetic ending.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a philosophical novel written by Oscar Wilde. The story mainly follows Dorian Gray, a young, rich, and attractive young man. After a portrait of himself is painted, he becomes obsessed with staying young and charming. I would definitely recommend this book because it offers an interesting perspective on youth, and how people desire to maintain it. I would rate this book 5/5.

The winner gets any wish granted for them for the remainder of their lives and unlimited riches. The loser end up getting killed after receiving three warning. I would recommend my reading to people as it does a pretty good job at depicting peoples mental states and how something as terrifying as the walk can affect people in the long run. The characters are also incredibly intriguing and interesting. The ending is pretty good, for Stephen King. I would give it an 8/10

The book is told through the point of view of Irish Chase, as she reflects on her life and family history. It begins with the death of her sister, Laura chase, and then goes on into different memories of Iris's while including a secret affair between two unnamed lovers. Overall, the book was alright. It has very long chapters and goes by pretty slowly. While this is not the best book I've read, it is also not the worst. I would rate this a 5/10.

The book was really good it touched on an important subject that really makes you question the people around you. The book highlights how the instinct to survive can affect the morality that is imposed by our society. There are several symbols throughout the story like Piggy's glasses, Ralph, Jack, and Simon. As the story progressed they act out more and turn agasint one another. There are multiple deaths by the end of the book.

They develop rules and a system of organization, but without any adults to serve as positive leader, the children eventually become violent and brutal to one another. To me, the theme is basically trying to show the problems of society compare to the situations of human nature.

I also do think that it has a powerful message which also made it a good read. the book starts with a plane crash onto a deserted island. the plane had all kids 12 and under as they attempt to create some sort of government chaos eventually breaks out and these innocent young kids end up turning on each other and some even end up killing one another. It is interesting to see the true test of survival and how these young kids dealt with it, and how much it was able to change them.

The kids begin to create their own government and rules to maintain their way of living. This all starts to fail as everyone becomes agressive and sneaky. They eventually turn against each other and some even begin to flee the island. I would recommend this book to anyone, I love the idea of the young children starting their own life of government and how it turned out.

Gatsby has an obsession to reunite with his old lover, Daisy Buchanan after he returns from the war. Despite the fact that Gatsby is filthy rich, and has the materialistic items he could ever want, all he truly needed was the caring love of someone by his side. The novel shows that the American Dream as a whole is unreachable. Like Gatsby, he had great status, however was unable to have future with his one true love.

If you are used to happy endings always happening, you're in for a treat. Willy's relationship with his two sons and wife demonstrates the realities of the American dream and how in many scenarios, it is not meant to be for many people. A deterioration in mental health paired with a unfortunate social environment will drive man into unfathomable darkness, as seen with Willy.

“Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro begins with narrator Kathy H. who introduces herself as a thirty-one-year-old carer. She has been a carer for nearly twelve years but will leave her role in a few months. Early 1990s England, is a dystopian society that follows the lives of ordinary children and civilians who are oblivious to the future that lies ahead.

Ordinary citizens are prolonged through a program of human cloning. Hailsham is the institution where children are being “prepared” for their lives duty. As young adults, they begin to donate their vital organs. All “donors” receive care from designated “carers,” clones who have not yet begun the donation process. The clones continue to donate organs until they “complete,” which is another term for death after the donation of three or four organs. Never Let Me Go is an incredibly well-written novel that leaves readers with a sense of gloom upon finishing. This novel has a reflective, nostalgic, and somber tone that makes us question what it truly is to be human. It makes us reflect on personal experiences such as friendships and memories. Ishiguro is an amazing author and I believe this book is one hundred percent worth reading.

The novel Pride and Prejudice takes place in 18th century England. The novel follows the journey of Elizabeth and Darcy. When Elizabeth and Darcy first meet they do not like each other. Eventually they fall in love and learn to overcome their pride and prejudice. I would not recommend this book however I wouldn't be against someone reading it. The book is not a bad book I just found it to be kind of boring. I would rate it a 3.5

Pride and Prejudice follows the story of Elizabeth Bennet, who is the second oldest of five sisters and from the middle class, and Mr. Darcy, who is significantly wealthier and has a younger sister, in regency England. When they first meet, they think badly of each other. Both have a great sense of pride and a prejudice towards the other one, mostly due to their distinct social classes, people they are associated with, and personalities. Over time, they end up falling in love with each other, while overcoming their pride and prejudice. I would recommend this book. Since it is in old English, it is a bit of a tougher read, but overall understandable. There are some plot twists, and nice character development from both main characters. I rate this book a 4/5.

One day, Gregor wakes up from a nightmare where he discovers that he can no longer move the same way he once could, this was because he has turned into a bug similar to a beetle. With his new bug body, Gregor becomes worried that his family will fincially suffer. The story continues by Gregor and has family attempted to navigate their new cicumstances.
I would reccomend this text because it is not too long, it has numerous symbols, the overall theme is significant, and the ending was surprising.

The Metamorphosis, written by Franz Kafka, follows the life of Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman who one day wakes up to find out that his body has changed into a monstrous bug. The story follows the reactions and transformations that characters in the story go through as a result of Gregor's transformation and features several thematic concepts about isolation, depression, family, and sacrifice. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a bizarre, tragic but sometimes comedic book with underlying messages to analyze. 4/5

4/5 stars - The metamorphosis by Kafka is about this young man, Gregor, who wakes up one morning in the form of a bug. Throughout the book, Gregor is calm about his metamorphosis while his family seems lost and unable to understand or consider Gregor to be the same person he was before. While Gregor tries to communicate and reason with his family as a bug, there is no actual understanding between them. The book is filled with irony and the theme focuses on trying to understand oneself and coming to terms to change. I enjoyed reading it and I felt for Gregor a lot, it was a great book!! Totally recommend :)

Their world is in a war and they were sent off to these schools for their "safety" and to live in a place that almost distracts them from the real world, but in all reality, it's the complete opposite of that. I would recommend this book and rate it at a 9/10 due to the amount of details Gray gives about the girls day to day life being in this school and gives each girl's perspective while at it. I thought it was a pretty decent read, as I had already read it multiple times when I was younger but it was nice to go back to a book that I knew.

It is straight-forward in explaining what happens and doesn't confuse the reader much. It was enjoyable to read if you're not scared of traumatic tails. The novel follows the life of main character Oba Yozo and his struggle with alienation, different forms of abuse and his self-acceptance. His life is split into three "notebooks" and in which the third notebook is also split into two parts.

The book follows protagonist John Proctor through the Salem, MA witch trails in the 1600s. Conflict is caused by Abigail Williams who accuses others of witchcraft due to the power she experiences when she does & personal bias held over others. This includes accusations brought upon Elizabeth Proctor, John's wife, as Abigail was jealous the two couldn't be (John ended he & Abigail's affair quite harshly). The reader understood there were just two witnesses to these crime, the victim & the accused, & the victims word would always be taken over anything else. I would recommend this book because there was a lot of suspense and the topic interests me. 4/5 stars

Rating: 5

Summary: An African American girl writes letters to god, documenting all the experiences the main character, Celie, faced, and all the trauma she endured from a little girl to a grown adult. From being abused by the men in her life and losing family, being all alone, Celie learns to resist when being forced to do things by others, to find her happiness and independence.

Reccomendation: I would highly recommend this book, unless your sensitive to sexual assault/abuse. However, the story is fascinating and really catches some shockers throughout. While, the plot of the book is interesting itself, it's also educational as it talks about different African American culture and religions that many other people have not heard of.

Overall, the story is very good, and gives an authentic perspective to Igbo culture. The story follows Okonkwo, a member of the Igbo peoples of Africa, located in modern day Nigeria. He is a gruff, emotionally distant man with three wives and many children, and has a high position in his village. Part 1 of the story is the longest, entirely focusing on Igbo life. Part 2 is set in a different village, and gives the first hints of European colonization, though the characters rarely see colonists first hand. Part 3 has Okonkwo returning to his home village years later, and he sees just how much Christianity and colonialism has changed his village.
Overall, it is a fairly disjointed, "nothing story," meaning that it lacks high stakes and focuses more on an individual's life story. This does not mean that it is dull though, as I very much enjoyed seeing how Okonkwo reacted to a world that was changing all around him.

At a Capulet party that the Montagues crash, Romeo who is a montague falls in love with Juliet who is a Capulet. The families ongoing conflict makes it difficult for the two to be together, resulting in a tragic end. I would recommend this book to an audience who prefer genres such as drama or romance.

He establishes his own church, an anti-religious church. A preacher, who didn't want to be known as a preacher. Taking place in the fictional town of Taulkinham, Tennessee. I would recommend this book to those that like a different take on the rejection of religion and skewed dark comedy or morbid characters.

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen is about two sisters that endure heartbreak in different ways. Marianne is very open about her emotions and doesn't hide them, whereas Elinor is able to keep her heartache concealed. I do recommend this book because it deals with complex relationships and how that affects the characters emotional state.

Jim Burden is the main character of the novel. The novel revolves around Jim meeting an immigrant 13 year old named Antonia Shimerda when her family moves next to Jim's grandparents farm where he recently moved to after being orphaned. I recommend this novel if you enjoy literature, because there is a lot of interesting and thought provoking rhetorical devices to analyze. The book is also only 175 pages so it is an easy quick read.

Disgrace is an overall amazing book that follows the story of David Lurie, a professor at his university, following an affair with a student that caused him to resign. As he is pictured as a man of power and even "disgrace", he is left to connect with his daughter who lives in Cape Town, South Africa, and goes through a traumatic event that occurred that leaves David reflecting back on his actions of a sex-driven fifty-three-year-old man, and how his idea of exploiting women will change once it comes to your own family. I find this book very eye-opening and self-reflecting to the power and advantages that one can have.

Rating 5 stars

The style of this book at the start may seem disjointed and the interesting and seemingly made-up slang makes traversing the pages of this book difficult, but after that threshold is crossed it is easy to be entrenched in this book. All of the difficulty that comes with decoding the puzzle of the book leaves a lasting impression on the reader and helps them form a personal connection with it. The thematic choices are apparent and in your face but still remain subtle enough and there are plenty of moments of sudden realization which will occur throughout this book. Overall its a great read and is an insight on others worldview and the uncertainty about the choice of free will.

This novel beautifully portrays the link between a child's imagination and reality. And tells the reader what can happen when that imagination is brought to life. It can be damaging without knowing. This novel follows Briony, a 13-year-old writer, who encounters a mishap between her older sister and the maid's son, Robbie. Her witnessing this spirals into a web of conclusions that bring consequences to all but herself.
