Locally she is known as Mamacha Carmen. There are many different stories about the history of Mamacha Carmen. The most popular one is that in 300 BC there was a major drought and the holy men living on the mountain Carmel prayed and prayed for rain. While they were praying they saw one cloud that brought all the rain they needed. One of the men who was praying was conceived from a virgin. Being born from a virgin was interpreted as being a coming sign of a savior.
