This article explains how China's government is encouraging urbanization in cities to drive economic growth. As this plan is being implemented, people are saying that China needs to loosen urban laws restricting the purchase of urban homes. China is a developing country but has for decade been against migrants moving to cities from the rural parts of China. All of that discrimination is supposedly going away with a new plan called the "National New-Type Urbanization Plan". This is an example of current global urban growth in China and is helping this country become a developed country

In San Francisco, companies like Google are sending private buses out to their employees working in Silicon Valley but living in residential areas. Because these higher salary people are moving to these neighborhoods, with the help of Google's special treatment, the rent in the area is skyrocketing. This is forcing people who don't have the job needed to pay such high rent to be evicted in favor of someone who is willing to pay the increased rent. This event is taking place right in this moment and is occuring in the US, a developed country. Gentrification is a topic in Urban Geography and is occuring in our backyards.

In Canada, a developed country, many people are starting to move into the cities to go to a University and then stay there instead of moving back out to the suburbs. Traditionally, people in their 20's and 30's would want to move out of the city to go live in a house with land, friendly neighbors, and many children. Now, the idea of everything being in a walk-able area with public transportation helping as well is attracting more and more people. Also, the character of the city and diversity of people has caused city populations to rise. This is an urban trend of people moving into the city as apposed to many people moving to the suburbs.
