         <title>Powers of the General Assembly</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>They can pass two types of laws, Statutes laws that applies statewide (House Bill No 2) and Special/Local laws that applies to a specific area of a state, a county. Anything that is with money the General Assembly controls.&nbsp;<br><br>Through Statutes, the General Assembly decides how much money can be spent and how state's expenses will be paid (State Taxes).&nbsp;<br><br>The legislator oversight, they learn how current or new laws are working and whether the laws need to be changed.<br><br>They have the power to oversee Impeachment hearings. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Organization of the General Assembly</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Elections- Members of the GA are elected into equal districts. The districts are based on Censuses. (Population). 50 Senators for 50 Districts. 120 House Members for 120 Districts.<br>Qualifications- House: 21 years old (1 year residency). Senate: 25 years old (2 years state residency)/(1 year district residency).&nbsp;<br>General Assembly Leadership- Speaker of the House (of Representatives): They preside and appointment.<br>President of Senate: The lieutenant governor is also President of the Senate (only votes to break a tie).<br>President Pro Tempore: They preside over the Senate and make key appointments.<br>Legislative Sessions- They do long sessions in odd number years and short sessions in even number years. Long=6 months. Short=6 weeks. Special sessions can celled by the governor or the speaker of the house and president of the senate. Example, house bill #2. They introduced the bill and passed it in one night.&nbsp;<br>Key Legislation- In 2005, the NC education lottery was created. In 2006, NC raised minim wage. In 2016, Public Facilities Privacy &amp; Security Act, HB #2.<br><br></div>]]></description>
