In the deciduous forest, trees change color of the leaves throughout the seasons. In springtime, the trees grow new leaves that they had shed over the winter. In the summer the leaves are green. During autumn, the leaves change color because the tree is taking all the sugar from it. During the winter, the leaves fall off because it is no longer needed and grows back again in the spring.

VEGETATION:
Deciduous forests are home to trees such as oak, birch, beech, aspen, elm and maple.
Trees provide a home for other plants in the deciduous forest. Climbing vines such as poison ivy use tree trunks as support, and lichens and mosses grow on trees outer bark.
Underneath the trees, plants in the deciduous forest are divided into several layers of growth.
The first is the shrub layer such as azaleas, below the shrub layer grows the herb layer such as bluebells and finally, lichens, fungi and mosses grow on the ground layer of the forest, taking in nutrients from the wet soil.

BIOLOGIST

Lowering these latitudes you can find coniferous forests (in the Northern Hemisphere spruces) with some dwarf betulaceae (that is, taiga), in the Southern Hemisphere with forests and cold rain forest of phagaceae followed by southern conifers.

There are also biomes similar to those of tundra due to the effect of height (moorland), as in Tibet and at various levels of mountains around the world, as occurs in tropical areas of Peru and Bolivia.

VEGETATION
Plant life is exposed to low temperatures which makes it difficult for it to survive due to the difficulty in obtaining water, which is frozen for most of the year. Furthermore, the

mineralized organic material is very poor due to the low decomposition rate of the organic material. In tundras where temperatures are below 10 ° C in the coldest month and annual periods without ice for less than 3 months, tree growth is impossible, so common plants are mosses and lichens, which do not exceed 10 cm. high, thanks to strong winds that make them stay close to the ground.

Typical Arctic vegetation is made up of deciduous grasses and dwarf shrubs from the ericaceae family, along with moss and lichen associations. These plant communities are adapted to strong winds and ice disturbances in the soils. They can all photosynthesize at low temperatures and with low light intensity during long periods of daylight in the tundra.

Mountain plant communities are made up of tangled plants that do not occur in the Arctic. These plants adapt to gusty winds, heavy snowfall and large thermal fluctuations. They photosynthesize under very intense light during short periods of sunlight.

FAUNA
The fauna, in the tundras, has the need to protect themselves from the cold, for this the different organisms have different ways to protect themselves from the cold depending on their temperature regulation. Thus, some animals develop a dense coat and accumulate a large amount of subcutaneous fat, their surface volume ratio is as small as possible in order to isolate themselves from the cold. Among the animals we can find herbivores, such as caribou, reindeer, musk ox, arctic hare, snow goat and lemming, and carnivores, such as the white bear (in the extreme north) wolf, gyrfalcon, kodiak bear and the snowy owl; salmon are, to a large extent, the base of the food web for the fauna of this biome. Animal life is particularly sensitive to the destruction of its environment, being directly affected by excessive hunting, which can lead to the extinction of any animal or plant species in this fragile and interdependent biological community.

CLIMATE
The tundra's climate is characterized by its harsh winters, low temperatures, little rain or snowfall and short summers. For example, the monthly average of Baffin's Earth temperatures ranges from 7 ° C to -31 ° C and the annual average is -12 ° C. In the interior of the continents the temperatures tend to be extreme, so there is no variation in the annual averages.
The combination of frozen soil and flat surfaces of the tundra prevents the drainage of water, which stagnates on the surface or saturates the upper layer of the terrain. Lagoons and swamps are formed that provide moisture to the plants, which compensates for the low rainfall.

Periodic freezing and thawing of the soil in the best-drained places produces regular cracks in the soil that form polygons. Where drainage is worse, rough, irregular shapes appear, with mounds, frozen nodules and earth cords. In summer, the melting of the slopes can cause the soils to slide and produce terraces caused by solifluction or landslides.

All these models described for the arctic tundra appear on a smaller scale in the alpine tundra. The landscape of bare rock covered with lichens is also common, which is called the paramo. These landforms promote a series of small habitats that give variety to the landscape of the tundra.
