I think I'd want to start by telling students my name, my major, and what I hope my career will be to see if we have anything in common. I would also sit on my students' level so they relax and realize it's not a lecture. I might start with something like "what's your go-to sandwich" to get them talking, or ask for their name and major too. Once I get them talking and comfortable I'll explain more about PAL.

I would break the ice by introducing myself. I would tell them who I am and some fun facts about myself as I am there as their peer. It is important for students to know what they should be expecting, so I would explain I am there to help conduct group study sessions, and I will not be lecturing as this is a collaborative space. I hope this would create conversation and they end up going around the room introducing themselves!

I would start off by explaining a little bit about me such as my name, where I am from, what I am majoring in etc. I would then ask to go across the room and ask everyone name, major, and a random question to get everyone talking. I would then make sure they understand that I am there to support them as a peer and not someone that is above them.

I think I would start off by introducing myself, my major and what I do outside PAL. I would then try and break the ice by asking them to give a random fact about themselves and encourage them to converse amongst themselves and with me. The hope would be that this would help them get more comfortable with me and create a more organic relationship between them and myself. After a short time, we would rap up and I would begin to explain what we would be doing that day.

Since the first 2 weeks are on zoom I would probability reach out to the professor and ask if it would be alright if I introduce myself on the fist day of class in the zoom session. I would say that I am the PAL for this course and explain what that means. That I am here to be a peer and help them with not only the course but if they have any questions not related to the course as well. I would make sure to emphasize that I am here to conduct study sessions and help the students learn the material from lecture, that I am not an expert an will not know all the answers. I would also say my majors and minor as well as my future plans and some fun fact about myself. Then finish with how to contact me and where to find the PAL session times and zoom link/meeting rooms for in person meetings.

I would also mention that I enjoyed the subject I am leading PAL sessions for and that I look forward to the semester. This would set a positive tone for the rest of the semester. I would also ask my students to go around and state their name and anything else they might want to add. This would get them warmed up to talking and engaging.

I would start the session by introducing myself, my major and the things I am doing this semester as well as my future career goals and will tell them that I am always here if they need any help in case they are also following the same career goal or if they are curious about learning something related. I will tell them how much I enjoyed taking this class when I did and I loved the professor so they have nothing to be fearful of and that they will succeed in this class if they just keep coming to the session and keep practicing the problems that are assigned to them. I will tell them that I am also a student just like them and I am completely open to learning anything from them too so we are working together as peers and they don't have to hesitate coming to me for any kind of help that they need.
