During my senior year of high school, I was able to enroll in a course called "Intro to Teaching" that allowed me to use one of my class periods to experience the life of a teacher each day. I chose to go to a kindergarten classroom, with the teacher being someone I knew, Mrs. Patterson. She was like a sister to me. Each day, I spent an hour and a half with her and the students, preparing the classroom for students' arrival. I was able to spend the first bit of the day playing with building blocks, helping them draw and describe their drawings, and using building magnets to show their favorite things. After this time ended, the students went to the carpet, where Mrs. Patterson had a sentence written on her whiteboard, and the students would answer her questions regarding their letter of the week. It was so rewarding to be able to be in these children's lives and get insight each and every day of what goes on in a teacher's day to day life.

Over the course of my sophomore year in college, I got the opportunity to work at the Donald W. Reynolds Boys and Girls Club as an After School YDP Staff. Similar to my experience in high school, I was the staff that was in charge of the kindergarteners. Each day, we walked over to Owl Creek Elementary School, where we picked up kids who ranged from the ages of 5 to 11. We would walk them back to the Boys and Girls club and begin our after-school program. We ate snack, took attendance, played in the gym, the games room, on the playground, and did much more. Some days of the week, the children had opportunities to climb a rock wall, go swimming, and participate in a multitude of clubs. Being a part of these kids' lives have taught me some of the most important lessons in my life, and that no matter what, it never hurts to be kind.

Life as a Nanny

Over the Summer of 2023 and 2024, I was the Nanny for a family of 4 boys, all under the age of 12. As crazy as it sounds, this time of my life was some of the happiest times, and these boys I spent each day with provided me with so much insight on what my life would be like, as a mom and possibly as a teacher. Whether it was getting them ready for the day in the mornings, going to get pizza for lunch, or spending the day at the playground or the pool, I have some of the silliest memories with these boys. I wouldn't trade my time spent with them for anything in this world!
