Over the past several weeks, we have seen an increase in the number of students who accidentally fall into these puddles. We ask that you please keep an extra set of clothes in your child's backpack for scenarios such as this. I know the kids don't like to stay in wet, muddy clothes for the remainder of the day.   • Recognize and use the suffixes –y, meaning “having or containing,” to form an adjective:  (dirt/dirty, ache/achy, knot/knotty. velvet/velvety)
  • Recognize and use the suffix -ful, meaning “full of” (fear/fearful, care/careful, forget/forgetful, joy/joyful, pocket/pocketful pity/pitiful)
  • Recognize and use the suffix -ness, meaning “state or quality of being,” to form a noun (kind/kindness, close/closeness, fit/fitness)
  • Recognize and use the suffix –ly, meaning “in a specific manner, period of time, or order” to form an adverb (live/lively, sad/sadly, easy/easily)
  • Recognize and use the suffixes –er, -or, -ar, which name a person or thing that does something to form a noun
  • For words that end with silent e, usually drop the e when adding a suffix that begins with a consonant: (live/living but live/lives, fierce/fiercer/fiercest, please/pleasant but grace/graceful)
  • For words that end with a consonant and y, usually change the y to i and add the suffix, but for words that end with a vowel and y, usually keep the y and add the suffix:  (copy/copied but enjoy/enjoyed)
