Soledad McCarthy comes with over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry from broker dealers such as Wells Fargo Advisors, Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley. She has been the Chief Operating Officer if an independent broker-dealer and hedge fund prior to Skyline College. At Skyline College, she started the Guardian Scholars Program (a program that supports current and former foster youth on campus) prior to accepting a position in the Business Department.

She has a passion for entrepreneurship having owned her own businesses and supporting up and coming entrepreneurs to amass their dreams. Soledad is passionate about equity, financial literacy, student services and ending generational poverty through entrepreneurship.
Soledad currently teaches for the CIPHER (Center for Innovative Practices Through Hip Hop Education and Research) and Umoja Learning Communities as well as Promise Scholars.

Melissa began her journey in the California Community College system in 2008 after 23 years as a small business owner in law, hospitality, and real estate. Her first stop was at the Santa Barbara Community College District as a founding Director of the Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC). In 2014, Melissa was promoted to Dean of the SBCC Business Division and in 2017, Melissa was promoted to Vice President at SBCC.

In 2020, Melissa's second (and hopefully last!) stop in the system is at the San Mateo County Community College District, as the new President of Skyline College. After her initial listening tour, she developed four goals for her first year: (1) to shore up the participatory governance process to ensure all voices help shape Skyline’s future; (2) to ensure fiscal stability for the next three to five years; (3) to innovatively engage a community despite a pandemic; and (4) to move an anti-racist agenda forward. 

Melissa has always been a well-loved leader who embraces authenticity and transparency. Her singular passion is to serve community college students in ways in which they can succeed. Her colleagues say she is a rare combination of smarts, heart, vision, and emotional intelligence.

Her axiom is, "There is no such thing as a single issue fight" and her favorite activist is Marsha P. Johnson.
