Counsel student about the demands of the short timeline

Providing exemplars at an earlier stage in the process

Work on effective structures for essay. As well as explicitly teaching how to write thesis statements.

Discuss missed deadlines and the reasons for them

Express concern about balancing school and ECs

Foliow up with note in MB, cc’ing parents

Depending upon timing and student response, request meeting with parents to discuss further

Review concerns

Discuss plagiarism (intentional or not) and potential ramifications; give suggestions for how to avoid it

Schedule follow-up meeting

Discuss logistics and reset the expectations. The student might not be able to achieve A or B but in the remaining time the sound expectations is a C or even a D. As long as both parties are aware, the process can continue to avoid a potential failing condition

Check the authenticity of the "unintentionality" through questioning and discussion.

Give the student the opportunity to rewrite the plagiarized sections with new evidence and conclusions.

Double check all sources used.

Provide templates with general pointers or guiding questions so they have a clear idea of what the expectations are for each section.
