Teacher can create a class on the Plicker website and assign students with an individual code. They will be given A, B, C, D codes. The teacher will then ask a question to the class and scan the room for their codes. The teacher can go to the website and see what students understood and didn't. I think this is a really fun way and can be used in so many ways. This type of assessment is an upgrade from the whiteboards because students can't look over to see the answers and each of their codes are individualized. I think all students will really love this and just requires picking an answer. I think 2nd-5th graders can use this successfully. It will mainly be a formal assessment and you will have records of it through the websites. I know after certain lessons students feel uneasy or confused. Other times students feel really great about what they learned. This can be a good socio-emotional way to see how students are feeling, or even see why they feel uneasy. In the article it is vital that we teach to ways that students prefer. If a student felt uneasy because the way the lesson was presented a teacher can change that. I think all grade levels will find this fun. It may be most appropriate for younger students because it is using pictures to describe how they feel. This would be used a formal assessment. I would say 4th and 5th grade students. This could be used for formal data collection. It could be used for qualitative data and quantitative data. "I changed my attitude about...", "I was surprised about...", "This reminded me of..." This would be most appropriate for students in 3rd-5th grade.
