believe that applying design process can support pupils and educators to be curious about their own learning to practically apply creative problem-solving skills to challenges inherent in education and the world of work. This challenge has been designed to support educational staff and pupils.

The application of the design process and creative problem-solving across STEM, is evidenced in our Scottish Design Galleries. From the engineering of the Forth Rail Bridge and the Falkirk Wheel, the architecture of Maggie’s Centre, Dundee and our own building, to the technology of Laryngoscope and 3D printed jewellery, as well as the product design of S’up spoon and the Hunter welly.

The same design process and associated skills used to develop and create these objects, can be practically applied to our Streets Ahead Challenge. This resource pack gives you all the information you need to support you and your pupils.

So far, we have developed early concepts that look at improving traffic flow, widening walkways, and creating safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists. Students have also begun drafting ideas for multi-level retail spaces, integrated greenery, public amenities, and areas that promote social inclusion.

This submission represents the stage our project has reached not a finished product, but a developing vision shaped by research, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving. As we continue to refine our ideas, we hope to create a final proposal that helps make Clarkston Main Street a more vibrant, sustainable, and people-friendly environment.
