With Germany attacking Russia and the American help for Great Britain it became a World War. By the end of WW II much of Europe and Asia and parts of Africa lay in ruins. Millions of people died and the world has seen one of the worst crimes in recent history- the Holocaust. The legacy of WW II: Fight for democracy and defeat of nationalist dictator. Technology developed during the war as e.g. radar, atomic bomb, mass- production of penicillin USA became the leader of the “free world” . Conclution No one is prepared to fight a World War III as the atrocities in WW II were so severe. The United Nations were established as an international peace keeping organisation. The Jews got their own state- Israel. NATO was formed as a military alliance.
