Assume the role of a policy/law maker. What laws would you keep, change or add regarding school accountability and why?

I feel like schools should be “held accountable” based on individual student growth. It’s not fair to hold everyone to the same standards and push them to be equal when really we just want them to keep learning and want to keep learning!

I would get ride of standardized testing. The only assessments that help the students are ones that directly relate to the content they are learning in class. I would also place a value on student growth and improvement rather than achievement.

i would have testing done in a stealthy way where students complete 10-15 questions every day about what they are currently learning in each subject so that schools can look at how students are doing in each topic, where many are doing well and are struggling, and how fast students are progressing. i would do this instead of the typical standardized test that is one whole day of testing because the traditional method doesn’t show progress throughout they year.

I would change how many standardized tests there are. These tests create a lot of stress for both students and teachers, and they do not show an accurate representation of what students have learned throughout the year. It also does not do a good job of showing students independent growth. Accountability should be based on how much a student has grown through the year and not just being at a certain point.

I would keep things like reform at the end of the school year but take away standardized testing. Improving each year based off what teachers have noticed throughout their school year is great. However in order to hold them responsible it would be good for them to present that information of improvement in some way.
