1. Sort of, but not really. Very regimented. Even discussion involves prearranged and assigned questions. Homework allows some autonomy (shopping)
2. Yes. Discussion and role-play, very social
3. No, only English, no other subject integration
4. Not much, although no explicit interruption/correction is stated, forms seem carefully monitored/ Hard to say without watching actual class
5. Yes, a little. Some comparison to other cultures at beginning. Contingency allows for students to speak to teacher if they can't/won't go shopping (shy?)
6. No. Very straightforward. Little critical thinking or problem solving
7. Not really, but contingency allows for different ways to complete homework. No specific assessment mentioned
8. Sort of, teacher may join discussion, but control of lesson plan/timing etc stays with teacher
Part 2
Perhaps there could be more opportunities for learner to actively participate. For example, students could create the questions or items to be used in the discussion and role-play. Even if they are low level, they could draw items that they are interested in shopping for.

!. Social nature of learning: because the activity of shopping itself is a common social scenario.
Thinking skills: when creating a role-play they need to think creatively and also criticise and evaluate their process if they feel it's going pear-shaped, but with lower levels not sure.
Diversity: Mix of students in the roleplays as they are from different backgrounds (other than Canada).
Learner autonomy: they are responsible for choosing contextual items to create their roleplay.
Focus on meaning: forms are focused in pretask (vocabulary) and post task (grammar)

2. with this particular task Alternative assessment and teachers as colearners are not really inclined in the outcomes.

1. Depicts social nature of learning in terms of the chosen topic, allows learners to collaborate with other learners (through discussion)
2. Focus on meaning- Students are expected to articulate their ideas (related to shopping), to convey meaning of the shopping context
3. Thinking skills- requires justifications/ explanations in the learning process
4. Alternative asst- Instead of relying on conventional assessment (pen and paper), students' learning and understanding are assessed in the form of role play.
5. The teacher facilitates the lesson. Helps to direct the students to the goals/ outcomes of the lesson. Leads in the discussion and provides model.
