Like #5, this is another clear example of over-designing a product. The LAVA B5 could have been a big hit, but we’ll never know. It flopped miserably. Apparently people didn’t want to relearn everything they knew about typing just to use their new cellphone.

Bamboo bottle works on the will of a person to save & preserve the nature & environment.. Bamboo bottle works on the aim to reduce or eliminate plastic waste. It considers the use of eco-friendly biodegradable material so as to bring an alternative for the use and throw or plastic water bottles in general. Bamboo bottle is a normal water bottle with threaded cap.. Bamboo bottle is great to maintain the water temperature. It works on the principal of attracting user and satisfying his thirst. Bamboo bottle is a simple water for the people, by the people towards sustainable life .

They emit 40% of the sound intensity to the outside and sometimes it is so loud that you can actually hear every part of the song while a person is listening to it using these.

I usually get annoyed by them when i’m in the library and someone starts to play a song/movie with these in his/her ears. I can literally hear each and every word of the song/movie, and then i think why do people even use them?Just go and play the music without even a earphone. Please don’t use them in places like library though.

What is the problem here?

The design had interrupted human brain cognitive bias. For our brain, seeing a handle triggers an action to pull it. In this case the Push and Pull part of the door are fitted with a handle, this creates confusion in your brain.

The push part of the door doesn’t need a handle. Design a door with handles only in the Pull side of the door. Leave the push side with a plain pad. We all will push the door automatically if we don’t see a handle.

In 2013, Facebook tried and failed to expand its dominance in social media. Facebook Home turned the home screen of a user’s phone into their Facebook news feed. Customers weren’t impressed, and most people reported that only the most Facebook obsessed people would enjoy it . The design was clunky and couldn’t be customized, and many people reported it used large amounts of data and battery. Less than a month after Facebook Home was released, the cost of a two-year subscription dropped . Facebook soon disbanded the team that was working on the project.

Some supermarkets have already added the cashier on the picture where there is a separation in the middle in case you would are taking your time to pack, but as soon as the next spot is full by the next client, I start to worry.

I would love that someone would come up with a solution to pay for groceries in a different way so that the checkout process stops being so stressful.

One of the most impressive displays of human-centered design, I’d argue, is Spotify -- a product that showed me my prior method for purchasing music was a problem, before I even recognized it as one.

Spotify succeeded by empathizing with their users’ struggle to pay for music from disparate sources, and created a solution we could all embrace. Thanks to Spotify, users are able to get all their music in one place, for one monthly fee. I’m willing to pay more for that kind of tailored, customized, helpful service.

 They wanted to have a way to teach people languages for free. But not just free. They wanted to have the best quality of language education, and offer it for free.

But making the best language learning system (or the best of anything) requires a lot of money. 

This was an idea similar to  reCAPTCHA. They generated something valuable out of the mental energy spent by students learning a language, And it turns out there is, and that’s what Duolingo does. Instead of paying tuition or a subscription fee, their students actively translate a range of documents for organizations as they practice what they have learned. Things like news articles, websites, Wikipedia, and blog posts. They hone their language skills with real-world applications, which gives their effort a purpose and offers an opportunity they previously couldn’t afford.

It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement for both parties. Their students receive a high-quality, completely free, language education, and organizations are given translation services powered by the students.
Duolingo heavily relies on gamification for engaging its learners. Learners choose a language they want to learn (Spanish, German, Klingon, High Valerian… yes, really!). The interface is playful so as to be non-threatening, the vocabulary and grammar is provided in easy-to-learn chunks and content is unlocked based on progress, and learners can react and ‘like’ other player’s activity. One of the most successful mechanics in Duolingo is the ‘streak’ where users are rewarded for spending 10 minutes a day on the platform to ensure regular practices and retention of learning.
