These Venetian fortifications were designed by an Italian engineer and the three gates that were built in them received, respectively, the names of Puerta de Santo Domenico, Puerta Provveditor and Puerta Giulia. The repeated attacks suffered by these fortifications at the hands of powerful and well-trained armies, against which a fierce defense was exerted, fully justify them as an indispensable example for the study of European defense systems against enemy sites.

Everything related to the site is the responsibility of the Department of Antiquities. The Nicosia City Council works very closely with the Department and wishes to continue its efforts to promote fortifications by organizing walking tours, publishing brochures and guides, posting information on the Internet and organizing public exhibitions.
